Description
Masaru Daimon, also known in some regions as Marcus Damon, is the main protagonist of the anime series Digimon Savers, localized as Digimon Data Squad. He is a fourteen-year-old junior high school student who introduces himself as the number one ultimate street fighter in Japan. He lives with his mother Sayuri and his younger sister Chika. His father, the researcher Suguru Daimon, disappeared into the Digital World roughly ten years before the events of the series. Despite being the son of the leading expert on Digimon research, Masaru is completely inept with computers and machinery, regularly breaking or destroying them. He is loud, outspoken, and headstrong, with a reputation for solving problems through direct physical confrontation. He possesses a superhuman level of physical strength, allowing him to knock out Digimon many times his size with a single punch, and he is able to destroy powerful weaponry such as Craniummon's Duo Solar Spear with his bare hands. Masaru is partnered with Agumon, a Rookie-level Digimon. They first meet in the opening episode, engage in a fistfight, and end in a draw, after which Agumon agrees to become his partner. Agumon idolizes Masaru and refers to him as aniki, a Japanese term that implies respect and brotherly affection. Masaru is soon recruited into the Digital Accident Tactics Squad, or DATS, a government organization tasked with maintaining peace between the human and digital worlds. He is unique among Digimon protagonists in that he does not wear goggles and is the first human shown to physically harm Digimon on a regular basis. His fighting style relies on his fists, and his ability to release DigiSoul often requires him to land a punch on an opponent in order to digivolve Agumon. As the story progresses, Masaru's motivations shift from a simple desire for combat to a deeper commitment to protecting both the human and digital worlds. He is driven by the goal of reuniting with his missing father and by the strong bond he forms with Agumon and his fellow DATS members, including Thomas H. Norstein and Yoshino Fujieda. He develops from a brash, solo-minded brawler into a more mature and cooperative leader. His notable abilities include his superhuman strikes, his capacity to channel DigiSoul energy through his Digivice, and, later, the ability to unlock Burst Mode evolution for Agumon, granting them immense power to face threats such as the demon lord Belphemon and the supreme ruler of the Digital World, Yggdrasil. Masaru's relationship with his father is central to his development, and his actions ultimately help to restore order between the two worlds.
