Description
Pazu is a supporting character in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and its sequel storyline, including the Individual Eleven feature that re-edits the second season around the Individual Eleven case. He serves as an investigator in Public Security Section 9, the covert unit that handles most of the story's operations. Within the team, he is often regarded as the member closest to the street, and he is sometimes characterized as the group's dirty cop because of his ease in dealing with criminals and the gray areas of police work.
His background is deliberately murky. Before joining Section 9, he was rumored in police circles to have been involved with several yakuza groups in Japan, and unlike most of his colleagues, who came from military service, he is presumed to have come from the underworld. In the second season, during a poker game with fellow operatives, he tells a detailed story about having once been a mercenary in a volunteer army in Mexico, fighting against a United Nations force that included the Major, Batou, and Ishikawa, before being defeated and scouted by the Major and losing his left eye and left arm in the process.
