Description
Bset is a female character in.hack//Roots. In the online world, her character is a Steam Gunner, identifiable by her long brown hair, loose blue robes, and a purple pendant she wears around her neck. Her expression is often somewhat dazed or distant. In the real world, she is a 24-year-old woman named Shizuka Miura who works at an IT company.
Her personality presents an intriguing contrast. On the surface, she is very soft-spoken and appears meek, but beneath this gentle exterior lies a strong-willed individual. She possesses a clear understanding of her own desires and holds no illusions about how the world operates. This clear-eyed realism gives her a bitter and sarcastic edge, a trait she does not bother to hide as she has no concern for others perceiving her in a negative light.
Bset's primary motivation throughout the story is her fascination with Ovan, the leader of the Twilight Brigade. She joins the guild specifically to get closer to him. However, her time in the group leads to disillusionment when she concludes that Ovan sees her as nothing more than a useful tool for his own purposes. As a result, she leaves the Twilight Brigade.
Despite leaving the guild, Bset remains connected to its orbit through other characters. Phyllo, a mutual acquaintance, introduces her to the protagonist Haseo. She meets with Haseo to warn him about the Twilight Brigade, advising him against joining the guild and even introducing him to another former member, Gord, who left for similar reasons. Her warnings go unheeded, as Haseo joins the group anyway.
Even after her departure, Bset cannot fully escape the conflict surrounding the Twilight Brigade. She becomes a target for TaN, a rival guild, due to her previous association with the Brigade. Phyllo eventually convinces her to rejoin the fight. She participates in the Brigade's battle against TaN's special forces at the Battlefield of Coiste Bodhar. It is during this pivotal fight that Ovan mysteriously vanishes. With his disappearance, Bset realizes that her sole reason for remaining in The World is gone. Deciding to quit the game for good, she offers a final piece of advice to Shino, the second-in-command of the Twilight Brigade, telling her to rely on Haseo rather than Ovan. As a Steam Gunner, her notable ability in combat is fighting with a small blue pistol.
