Description
Naobi, the guildmaster of TaN within the massively multiplayer online role-playing game The World R:2, presents himself as a hulking Ya Tribe Beast character, often described as panther-like in appearance, with yellow eyes and short brown hair. He is a male Macabre Dancer class. In reality, Naobi is not a regular player but a system administrator for the game’s operator, CC Corporation. The same person controls multiple characters: the legendary hacker Wiseman, the Moon Tree captain Nala, and later the administrator Yata. This individual was originally recruited by CC Corp to investigate the AIDA problem due to his background as a skilled player, information trader, and occasional hacker.

Naobi’s role in the story is primarily antagonistic to the Twilight Brigade. He orchestrates a trap to capture the mysterious player Ovan in order to analyze his unique character data, which contains an enormous amount of in-game information. Using the TaN guild as a front, Naobi and his operatives, including Ender, manipulate events to lure the Twilight Brigade into collecting Virus Cores and then ambush Ovan. After Naobi’s illegal activities are reported by the player Shino, he is forced to abandon that disguise. He then assumes the identity of Yata, a System Administrator who works from the Serpent of Lore base, monitoring the game for irregularities and the eight Epitaph Users.

As Yata, he becomes the leader of the G.U. organization, though he rarely interacts directly with players. Yata is a Macabre Dancer and also the Epitaph User known as “The Prophet,” able to summon the Avatar Fidchell. His personality is cold, secretive, and calculating. He has little regard for the average player’s safety and is willing to take risks that endanger innocent characters. He initially admired Ovan but grew resentful after AIDA and the system entity Aura chose Ovan instead of himself. Yata’s key relationships include his subordinates Pi and Kuhn, who carry out his orders in the field while he remains behind the scenes.

Throughout the series and the subsequent.hack//G.U. games, Yata evolves from a shadowy manipulator into a more active overseer, though his secretive nature and pragmatic morality remain constant. His notable abilities lie in his deep understanding of The World R:2’s systems, his hacking skills, and his strategic mind, which allow him to manipulate events from afar. He is driven by a desire to understand and control the game world, particularly the phenomena involving AIDA and the Epitaphs.
