Mystical Sand, sometimes referred to as Desert Girl, is a character from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters storyline, specifically appearing as the guardian of the first trial. She is the character embodiment of the Monster Card Mystical Sand and resides in the desert area of the Capsule Monsters world. Her nature is intrinsically tied to the environment she protects, as she is described as being invisible to most people, hiding inside a tornado, and known as the whisper that rides the desert wind.

Her primary role in the story is to serve as the first of the Five Sacred Trials. The objective of this trial is to silence the whisper that rides in the desert wind, a task that brings Yugi Muto and his friends into her domain. Mystical Sand adopts the persona of this whisper, making her both the riddle and the gatekeeper that the group must overcome to proceed. Her personality is taunting and deceptive. Rather than attacking directly, she prefers to harass and disorient her opponents. She laughs at the group, tells them to leave, and uses psychological tactics to make them feel hopeless, suggesting they give up as she continues to mock them from an unseen location. Her methodology relies on confusion and distraction, sending waves of monsters like Medusa Worm to attack while she remains safely hidden within her sandstorm.

In terms of abilities, Mystical Sand has complete control over sand and wind. She can kick up massive sandstorms to blind her enemies and obscure her location. Offensively, she can create demons and constructs from sand, including a giant hand that she uses to grab opponents. Her signature ability is her intangibility and concealment; she is the source of the mysterious whisper that echoes through the desert, making her incredibly difficult to find. Furthermore, she possesses the power to summon other creatures, as she repeatedly calls upon Medusa Worms to fight on her behalf, using them as disposable pawns to wear down intruders.

The key relationship she has is with Yami Yugi, who ultimately confronts her. Once Yami realizes that her voice gets louder as she approaches, he deduces that the key to the trial is not defeating the endless waves of worms but finding the source of the voice at the eye of the storm. With the help of Dark Magician and a fusion of armor, Yami breaches her tornado sanctuary. When faced directly, Mystical Sand attempts to defend herself with her sand creatures, but she is outmatched in direct combat. She is ultimately destroyed by Yami Yugi, which completes the first trial. Her development is minimal, as she functions as a significant obstacle rather than a changing character; her narrative purpose is to test the wisdom and perseverance of the heroes before being overcome, representing the first major hurdle in their journey.
