Description
Miyabi Asukayama is a seventeen-year-old high school girl from the modern world who is transported to the late Edo period by a mysterious jewel, becoming one of the celestial maidens known as Tennyo. She awakens as a Rakugo Tennyo, a type of celestial maiden whose power is rooted in words and the traditional Japanese comedic art of rakugo. Miyabi is characterized by a proud and competitive nature, serving as the chief rival to Yui Tsukishima, the protagonist. This rivalry stems from a strong desire to prove her own abilities and stand on equal footing with Yui, though she remains a dependable ally in the fight against demons and evil forces. Her background as an ordinary student in modern Japan gives her a sense of displacement in the historical setting, but she adapts to her role as a warrior of words. Throughout the story, she takes part in battles alongside the other Tennyo, using her verbal abilities to confront dark influences and protect the capital. Her key relationships include her rivalry with Yui, which drives much of her personal conflict and growth, as well as her camaraderie with the other summoned girls. While her development is not extensively explored, she evolves from a rival into a reliable partner, learning to channel her competitive spirit into cooperation. As a Rakugo Tennyo, her notable ability is the power of words, which she likely employs to attack, defend, or inspire, though the specifics of her techniques are not detailed. She is also a student of rakugo, linking her personal drive to the narrative’s central theme of storytelling as a force for good.
