Description
Kagemitsu Hazama is the father of the renowned surgeon Black Jack and the former husband of Mio Hazama. His professional background includes working as a hospital staff member in a New York hospital, where he met Mio, who was employed there as a nurse. His life took a significant turn when he left that position to join a secretive and influential initiative known as the Noir Project, in which many world celebrities also participated.

In terms of personality, Kagemitsu is depicted as an intelligent and dedicated individual, traits he shares with his son. His primary driving motivation is the safety and protection of his family. This concern is so profound that it forces him to make extreme choices, including living apart from his first family and later lying about his personal feelings, all to shield his loved ones from the threats posed by the Noir organization.

His role in the story is fundamentally tied to the tragic events that shaped Black Jack's life. After he refused to resume work on the Noir Project, the organization threatened him by placing a bomb on a beach where his wife Mio and young son were present. The subsequent explosion nearly killed them, and this event directly forced Kagemitsu to flee Japan for Macau, China, with a new wife named Renka Hazama out of fear that his family would be persecuted. This abandonment is the central childhood wound for Black Jack. Years later in the narrative, Kagemitsu is reunited with his son and requests that he perform facial surgery on Renka. During a difficult private conversation, he falsely claims he no longer loves Mio, believing it is a necessary lie to continue protecting his new family after twenty-one years.

The key relationships in his life are his first wife, Mio, and his son, Black Jack. While he appears to have moved on, his death reveals the truth of his enduring feelings. He ultimately falls into a coma and passes away. In his final moments, he sees an image of Mio and utters her name as his last word, an indication that his love for her never faded. Regarding his notable abilities, Kagemitsu was a skilled enough researcher to create a significant piece of medical technology, a durable artificial heart known as the Type Hydra, which was a product of his work on the Noir Project.
