Description
Osamu Kamiyama is a supporting character in the anime Kamisama Kazoku, where he serves as the ruling god and the head of the Kamiyama household. He is the father of Misa, Samatarou, and Meme, and the husband of the goddess Venus. The Kamiyama family lives in the human world so that his son Samatarou can study humanity as preparation for eventually succeeding Osamu as the next god. Osamu is an older man with grey hair and brown eyes, and he generally carries himself with a playful, approachable air.
In terms of personality, Osamu is a loving husband and father, though he is also somewhat odd and eccentric in his behavior. He tends to go overboard when expressing his care, especially toward his son and heir, Samatarou. Before Samatarou began showing his own initiative, Osamu frequently spoiled him by granting his every desire instantly, even when Samatarou did not particularly ask for it or want it. Because Osamu had a habit of overdoing these grants, his actions often embarrassed his son rather than helping him.
Osamu's main occupation is granting human wishes from his workplace in the heavens. He is a capable and powerful deity, able to fulfill desires and intervene in the lives of others on a divine scale. In the story, his power also extends to feats such as sending Samatarou back in time when his son accidentally reveals his divine nature to a human. Despite having these abilities, Osamu generally prefers to let his son handle his own challenges, particularly once Samatarou starts trying to achieve things through his own effort.
His role in the story is largely that of a paternal figure and divine authority who watches over his family from heaven. He remains supportive of his children and does not object to visits from them, but he also steps back to allow Samatarou to grow. As the story progresses, Osamu's approach shifts from that of an overprotective father who solves his son's problems with instant wish-granting to one who respects Samatarou's independence and allows him to learn from his own experiences. He is a wise and caring parent who balances his responsibilities as the ruling god with his affection for his family, and his actions reflect a desire to prepare his son for the responsibilities that will one day pass to him.
