Description
Hervé Girardot is a character from the anime Red Garden. He is introduced as a mysterious young man whose tragic family history is the driving force behind his actions throughout the series. Hervé witnessed his own mother transform into a monster due to a familial curse, which ultimately led to her death. This traumatic event defines his entire worldview and sets him on a desperate path.
The curse that plagued his mother continues to threaten the remaining women in his family. Hervé is deeply motivated by the need to save his sister and his cousin, who are the last two female members of his clan. They begin to manifest the same terrifying symptoms as his mother, plunging Hervé into despair and intensifying his resolve to find a cure. Within his own clan, Hervé is somewhat of an outsider. He disagrees with the family's leadership over how to handle the curse, specifically their use of resources on a woman named Lise. He feels that the family's efforts to find a cure are wasted on Lise and would be better spent on saving his sister and cousin. This internal conflict is compounded by his seething hatred for a group known as the Animus, whom he blames entirely for his family's tragic predicament. This deep-seated resentment leads him to manipulate others, including one of the main characters, Kate, as a means to an end in his personal war.
Physically, Hervé is depicted as an adult male with neck-length blonde hair and blue eyes. In his desperate quest, he decides to try and retrieve a cursed book from the Animus, believing this action holds the key to lifting the curse from his family. His ultimate downfall is tragic and comes from an unexpected source. He suffers severe wounds at the hands of a character named Lula, who rips out his sides, leaving him with a fatal injury. As his sister Anna begins to change into a monster, she attacks him. In a final, horrifying act, Hervé is forced to crush her spine to stop her, killing her himself. He ultimately dies from the combined effects of his massive blood loss and the emotional devastation of the event.
