Description
Ra Kan is one of the principal protagonists in Zoids Genesis. He was the ruler of Zuuri, a large and prosperous nation whose economy centered on agriculture and textile production, and one of the first countries to be struck when the militaristic state of Digald began its campaign of conquest. When Digald's forces surrounded his castle, Ra Kan chose to surrender rather than risk heavy loss of life among his people. He left his homeland together with his nephew Le Mii, and Zuuri was later rebuilt in a new location where it was able to prosper peacefully. Ra Kan, however, came to regret his decision deeply. He believed that his surrender gave Digald confidence and allowed its aggression to spread unchecked, and he carried the guilt of that choice with him throughout the conflict that followed. Because of his reputation, his ability, and the respect he commanded, Digald considered him a dangerous figure and hunted him wherever he traveled.

In personality, Ra Kan is a mature, kind, and intelligent leader. He shows genuine empathy and concern for the people under his command, and he plans his battles carefully in order to minimize losses. He is also highly perceptive, and he works out the true identity of Ron long before anyone else realizes it. He is patient in his dealings with the people he meets, a quality that is evident when he agrees to help the young Ruuji Famiron after Ruuji's village is attacked and its generator is damaged during the early stages of the war.

Ra Kan's primary motivation is to undo the harm caused by Digald and to restore peace to the continent. After a deliberate change in his outlook, he decides to restart the fight against Digald by creating, amassing, and organizing a Digald Suppression Army. He establishes a base of operations and sends groups out across the continent to gather larger forces. As the central figure of anti-Digald activity, he becomes the leader of a combined resistance effort, bringing together various tribes and independent resistance groups that had previously been unable to cooperate. The early alliance struggles with territorial disputes among its members, but after a serious defeat at the Mist River, the different factions finally unite under his leadership and begin to operate as a single effective army.

His role in the larger story is that of the organizer and senior commander of the resistance. He brings key allies into the fold, often through personal diplomacy. When he hears that the veteran commander Tize is still alive and fighting, he immediately dispatches Ruuji with an appeal letter, and Tize gladly joins the army out of deep respect for Ra Kan. He also works alongside other resistance leaders and guides the younger fighters who rally around him. As the war progresses, the united forces come to realize that their true enemy is the king of Digald, Jiin, and they are eventually joined by Digald soldiers who defect after learning the truth about the machine soldiers used by their army. During a battle against Georg, Jiin fires his gravity particle cannon, and Ra Kan is presumed killed in action. In his absence, Ruuji takes temporary command, and the army is renamed the Jiin Suppression Army. Ra Kan, however, survives: the shields of Georg's Zoid protected him, and he returns in time for the climactic battle against Jiin, rejoining the fight alongside his allies.

His key relationships include Le Mii, his nephew and constant traveling companion, with whom he shares an enduring bond; Ruuji Famiron, the young protagonist whom he supports and mentors in the early stages of the campaign; Tize, a veteran commander who holds great respect for him; and Ron, whose hidden identity Ra Kan sees through before anyone else. These connections define him as both a family man and a unifier of disparate groups.

As a warrior, Ra Kan is an experienced and skilled pilot. His personal Zoid is the Sword Wolf, a wolf-type Zoid equipped with a jackknife-like blade made of Leeo steel on its back. Later in the war, the Sword Wolf is fitted with the Bio Crusher and upgraded into the Sword Wolf Crusher, which allows him to release shockwaves. This enhancement enables him to destroy Bio Zoids even at a distance, making him effective beyond close combat. His greatest strength, however, is not any single weapon but his strategic mind: he builds a scattered resistance into a disciplined fighting force and consistently seeks ways to achieve victory while sparing as many lives as possible. Through his leadership, his willingness to admit past mistakes, and his return to the final fight, Ra Kan develops from a ruler who surrendered out of compassion into the driving force behind the continent's liberation.
