Description
Cobra Man, also known as Kobura Otoko, is a cobra-themed monster created by Shocker. His initial mission involved stealing gold from Japan's depository. He lost his specialized fangs containing Substance B to a guard dog, sparking his pursuit of the dog's owner and the subsequent kidnapping of the owner's son, Takehiko, to locate the fangs. During this pursuit, he captured Takeshi Hongo. This culminated in his defeat by Hongo's transformation into Kamen Rider 1 and the Rider Kick, resulting in his destruction when he fell onto landmines.

Shocker revived him as Remodeled Cobra Man, enhancing his biology with puppy blood and granting fire-breathing capabilities via a flamethrower tongue. Tasked with stealing gold from Yokohama Harbor under biologist Ritsuko Ayanokoji's supervision, he inadvertently injured Ayanokoji during a confrontation with Kamen Rider. The Great Leader of Shocker then ordered him to execute her. He subsequently perished battling Kamen Rider 1, who used the Rider Reversal technique to throw him into the ocean, causing an explosion. Resurrected again in Shocker's Revived Monster Army, he was destroyed by Tokageron's special bomb.

In the original manga continuity, Cobra Man was originally a human named Haruhiko, inducted into Shocker alongside his girlfriend Miyoko, who became Snake Woman Medusa. Assigned to assassinate protestors opposing a Shocker factory, he became obsessed with defeating Kamen Rider after a near-fatal encounter. Slated for execution after disobeying commands, Medusa intervened, leading to his reconstruction. The couple later undertook a gold robbery mission for Shocker, during which Cobra Man deliberately alerted Hongo for a rematch. He was killed when Medusa's lasers struck him during the fight, prompting her suicide.

The film *Kamen Rider The First* reimagines Cobra Man as Haruhiko Mitamura, a brainwashed special-class soldier in Shocker. Working alongside his romantic partner Snake (formerly Miyoko Harada) in Bat's squadron, he sustained mortal injuries from Kamen Rider 1's Rider Kick and died while holding Snake's lifeless body.

Cobra Man possesses superhuman strength, durability, and speed. His primary weapon is an extendable cobra-headed right arm capable of biting or constricting targets. Mixing Substance A (from his ears) and Substance B (from his fangs) in his heart generates a toxic mist that dissolves nearly anything. He can burrow underground by spinning at high speeds and create disorienting whirlwinds. After remodeling, he gained fire-breathing capabilities and a bulletproof physique.

His legacy includes being the first Shocker monster revived after defeat and the first to receive an enhanced form, establishing a recurring motif in later Kamen Rider series and inspiring numerous cobra-themed antagonists across the franchise.
