Description
Kanaria, also known as Geumsajak, is the second doll created by the legendary artisan Rozen, placing her as an older sister to figures such as Shinku and Hinaichigo within the Rozen Maiden series. Her primary narrative role unfolds in the second anime adaptation, Rozen Maiden: Träumend, which follows a distinct story path from the original manga. As a living doll, she is a participant in the Alice Game, a ritual combat where the victor who claims the Rosa Mystica of all seven sisters is said to become the perfect girl, Alice.

In terms of personality, Kanaria is an energetic, sociable, and proudly eccentric figure. She is marked by a strong belief in her own cleverness and strategic genius, often referring to herself as the smartest among the Rozen Maidens. This self-assurance is contradicted by her frequent failures, as most of her grand plans to collect her sisters' Rosa Mystica are comically inept and never succeed. Despite her perceived cunning, she is far from villainous and is better described as a friendly rival whose ambitions are tempered by a generally good-natured and enthusiastic disposition. In the original Japanese dialogue, she has a distinctive verbal tic, habitually ending her sentences with kashira, a colloquial expression similar to I wonder. Her love for tamagoyaki, a Japanese rolled omelet, is a notable characteristic, though she is rarely seen enjoying it for long before it is stolen by opportunistic birds. She fancies herself a stealthy observer and enjoys watching the activities of her sisters, sometimes even using binoculars to do so.

Regarding her background and role in Träumend, Kanaria is an active agent in the Alice Game, though her approach is less ruthless than others. She is initially determined to win, but her unsuccessful schemes position her more as a source of comic relief than a true antagonist. As the series progresses, her motivations shift; she eventually gives up on the aggressive pursuit of victory and becomes a good friend to the other dolls. She is convinced to embrace a peaceful lifestyle, often spending her time at the Sakurada residence engaging in fun activities like playing games with the group, solidifying her role as a non-threatening, friendly presence.

Her key relationships are largely defined by her dynamic with her sisters. She shares a particularly close bond with Hinaichigo, whose childish and naive personality complements her own. The two become good friends and also rivals, creating a playful and comedic duo within the series. Her relationship with Shinku is more directly tied to the Alice Game. At one point, Kanaria discovers Shinku holding Hinaichigo's Rosa Mystica. Mistaking this for an act of murder in the competition, she immediately jumps to the conclusion that Shinku killed their sister and attacks her, demonstrating how the rules of the game immediately create suspicion and conflict. The misunderstanding is later cleared up when Hinaichigo speaks through her Rosa Mystica, explaining the real culprit was the seventh doll.

In terms of notable abilities, Kanaria is a competent combatant whose power is centered on musical performance. Her primary weapon is a violin, which is deceptively adorable but capable of unleashing significant destruction. She fights by manipulating sound waves generated from her violin, using them as powerful offensive attacks against her opponents. Complementing her abilities is her artificial spirit, named Pizzicato. The name references a string instrument playing technique where the strings are plucked, which aligns perfectly with her musical motif and is used in her combat style as a counterattack.
