TV-Series
Description
Mao Jahana is the daughter of the head of the Jahana Yakuza and a classmate of Kai Miyagusuku at Koza Commerce High School. She is a high school girl with long brown hair and a bossy expression that matches her personality. She is strong-willed, stubborn, and often likes to be in control, traits she likely picked up from her father. However, her blunt and confrontational demeanor often serves as a brave facade she puts up when she is scared or things do not go her way.

Her primary motivation throughout the series is her romantic feelings for Kai. After Kai disappears from school, Mao meets the journalist Okamura and learns that he knows something about Kai's whereabouts. Determined to stick by Kai's side despite the danger, she steals money from her father and forces Okamura to take her along to Europe. Once she joins the group, she becomes part of the traveling party, which consists mainly of men. Initially self-centered and focused solely on Kai, she gradually warms up to Saya, the series' protagonist, especially after coming to terms with the fact that Kai does not return her romantic interest. As the only girl in the group, she grows protective of Saya, particularly when Saya's health begins to decline.

A key moment in her development occurs when she accidentally overhears Saya and Hagi discussing Saya's impending thirty‑year hibernation cycle. Mao becomes furious and slaps Saya, but she agrees to keep the secret. She then makes a promise with Saya, a pact between two women, to personally bring Saya back to Okinawa once everything is over. Later, Mao tests Kai's feelings by kissing him, but he does not respond, which leads her to accept the unrequited love and instead play matchmaker between Kai and Saya. Her role in the story is that of a steadfast human friend who provides emotional support and a link to normalcy amid the supernatural conflict.

In the final episode, Mao accompanies Okamura to the Middle East. In the spin‑off manga Blood#, it is revealed that she eventually marries Okamura, changes her surname to Okamura, and becomes pregnant with their first child.

Regarding notable abilities, Mao does not possess any supernatural powers. She is resourceful and brave, shown by her willingness to steal from her father and travel into dangerous situations. She also demonstrates some basic culinary skills, such as cooking and brewing coffee. Her greatest strength is her emotional resilience and her ability to grow from a self‑absorbed crush into a loyal friend and ally.
