Description
Moses is a supporting character in the anime Blood+. He is the leader of the Schiff, a group of artificial beings created in a laboratory by scientists using the blood of Diva. The Schiff are hybrids that possess traits of both Chevaliers and Chiropterans. Moses was the one who encouraged the Schiff to escape from the lab in Khirbet, driven by the hope of gaining freedom. He has the appearance of a late teenager, with jet-black hair that falls over the right side of his face and green eyes.
In terms of personality, Moses is calm and rational, often thinking before acting and prioritizing the well-being of his fellow Schiff. He shares an ambiguous friendship with another Schiff member named Karman, whom he frequently chastises. Moses is deeply motivated by the survival of his people; the Schiff are afflicted by a condition called the Thorn, which eventually kills them. To survive, they require Diva's blood. This need for Diva's blood becomes a central conflict for him. He initially tries to cut ties with Saya and her allies when he realizes Diva's blood is the key, but he later fights alongside Saya on Christina Island, recognizing that cooperation is more beneficial than hostility. He also befriends Kai Miyagusuku after Kai bonds with a Schiff member named Irene, respecting Kai for his empathy.
Moses wields a double-edged scythe with a pommel set high on the staff, which can also function as a close-quarters weapon. His abilities are enhanced by his Schiff nature, granting him superhuman strength and resilience. Later in the story, clones of Moses are used to create the Corpse Corps. In a pivotal moment, Moses tries to kill Kai because James, one of Diva's Chevaliers, tells him that this is the only way to obtain Diva's blood. However, in episode 45, when Karman is about to die from the Thorn, Moses chooses to die alongside him. The two commit suicide by removing their hoods in direct sunlight, an act that spells certain death for the Schiff. Moses's development reflects his unwavering dedication to his comrades and his ultimate acceptance of sacrifice when hope for a cure is lost.
