TV-Series
Description
The character is Ayumi Ichijou, the third sibling in the Ichijou family and one of the younger sisters of the class representative known as Ichijou. As the youngest of the sisters, Ayumi appears to be too young to verbally converse, so she relies entirely on drawing on a sketchpad to communicate with others. Mysterious in her own right, she shares her older sister's surreal demeanor but is distinguished by her silence and artistic form of expression. She is one of only two people, alongside her sister Ichijou, who are aware of the aliens that keep watch over the teacher Becky.
Ayumi's role in the story becomes more prominent as the series progresses. She has a significant part in episode seven, where she visits the school and inadvertently causes trouble. After this initial appearance, she becomes a regular presence, appearing again in episode fifteen. Her most notable contribution to the plot occurs in episode nineteen, where she acts as the bringer of a disease originating from the alien spaceship, which proceeds to affect the entire class. This incident highlights her unique connection to the extraterrestrial subplot that runs through the series, as she is one of the few characters who can interact with that hidden world.
Ayumi's relationship with her older sister is the most defining aspect of her character. Ichijou is known for her bizarre, reality-bending abilities, and this extends to her interaction with Ayumi, as she is frequently shown carrying her youngest sister around in her pocket. This physical closeness underscores the bond between them and reinforces the surreal nature of the Ichijou family, whose odd behavior is routinely accepted by their classmates with the simple explanation, "Don't worry about it. It's Ichijou". The family's shared secret regarding the observing aliens further cements their unique dynamic within the story.
Notable abilities include her unique communication method using a sketchpad to draw messages, as she does not speak. Her connection to the alien subplot also grants her a role as a vector for otherworldly phenomena, exemplified by her bringing a disease from the alien ship into the classroom. In this way, Ayumi serves as both a quiet observer and an active, if unwitting, catalyst for the surreal events that characterize her appearances.
