Description
Miyuki Igarashi is the homeroom teacher of class 1-A at Momotsuki Academy in the anime Pani Poni Dash!. She has a reputation among students and faculty as a heavy drinker and is often late to class, arriving hungover or simply zoning out during lessons. Her lack of interest in teaching is evident: she rarely bothers to dress up or wear makeup, and she frequently smells of alcohol. A common sight in her classroom is her staring out the window, voicing her wish to be a cloud, a sentiment that only her student Shu Momose typically hears. She owns an imported British Racing Green MG Midget, which she is protective of, but she allows the elderly school custodian Jijii to drive it after he helped secure permission for her to park it on campus. Despite his reckless driving, the car always returns undamaged. Another eccentric habit is her practice of placing Japanese-style scarecrows in empty seats in her classroom.

Miyuki shows little evident motivation as an educator, seeming to go through the motions out of boredom rather than any sense of duty. Her personality is defined by apathy, lethargy, and a reliance on alcohol to get through the day. She does, however, display a softer side in her interactions with other teachers. She gets along well with the young prodigy Rebecca Miyamoto, often acting as a laid-back, big-sister figure to her. She also depends heavily on her student Shu Momose, who frequently covers for her when she is incapacitated, fetching her to class or taking care of her after nights of drinking.

Within the story, Miyuki serves as a secondary character in the supporting cast, representing the irresponsible and disillusioned adult foil to the younger, more energetic characters. Her role is largely comedic, providing gags related to her drinking, tardiness, and general lack of professionalism. She undergoes no significant character development over the course of the series, remaining consistently apathetic and eccentric. Her notable abilities are few: she drives her vintage car, manages to maintain her position despite her negligence, and occasionally demonstrates a surprising if detached, kindness toward her colleagues and a few students. Overall, Miyuki Igarashi is a memorable supporting character whose defining traits are her alcoholism, her daydreaming, and her unorthodox approach to teaching.
