Description
Miss Ichijo is the class representative of Class 1-C at Momotsuki Academy in Pani Poni Dash. Her first name is never revealed, and she is known only by her surname. She has brown hair typically worn in a braid and is often seen drinking green tea. Her background is largely mysterious, but she is noted for having one younger sister in the anime and two in the manga, and she is one of only two characters who are aware that aliens are observing the class.
Ichijo possesses a muted, almost expressionless demeanor and speaks in very short sentences, often delivering non sequiturs that confound those around her. She is inexplicably capable of breaking physical laws on a whim, using her abilities for both helpful and disruptive purposes, sometimes saving the day and other times making situations worse. Her bizarre actions are met with a casual acceptance by her classmates, who shrug off her strangeness with the phrase "It's Ichijo." Despite her calm exterior, she engages in questionable behavior, such as poisoning the school water supply or feeding a rabbit poisoned dumplings, leading some viewers to perceive an ambiguous moral alignment. She is also a dedicated figurine collector who waits until a figure is nearly canceled before buying it, claiming the painters have perfected their work by that point.
Her role in the story is primarily as the surreal, unpredictable element within the class. She has no clear personal motivations beyond her own inscrutable whims, and she rarely explains her actions. Her key relationships include her younger sister, whom she carries around in her pocket, and the alien observers, whom she acknowledges without fear or surprise. She interacts infrequently with the other students, but her presence often drives the absurdist humor of the series. Over the course of the anime, her behavior grows increasingly erratic, though she never undergoes a character arc in the traditional sense; her development is more a deepening of her existing eccentricities. Her notable abilities include teleportation, a robot arm that emerges from her chest, the power to perform rain dances that actually work, and a general defiance of physics that she uses for comedic effect.
