Description
Masaki is the pilot of the Cybuster, one of the four legendary Masō Kishin mecha, and hails from the alternative world of La Gias, where magic and spirits govern reality. Orphaned at a young age, he developed a deep loneliness that was later eased by the surrogate family he found in La Gias. He was summoned to that world and eventually chosen by the high‑ranking wind spirit Cyfis to become the Cybuster’s pilot, a selection driven by his intense emotional fluctuations, which generate the large amounts of prana needed to control the machine.

Personality‑wise, Masaki is headstrong, hot‑blooded, and impulsive. He tends to act before thinking and can be quick‑tempered, but he possesses an unwavering sense of justice and fierce loyalty to those he cares about. He is notably awkward around women and has a famously poor sense of direction, often getting lost even in familiar surroundings. Two talking cat‑like familiars, Kuro and Shiro, accompany him, providing both comic relief and tangible combat support.

Masaki’s primary motivation in the anime Cybuster is to stop the DC organization’s dangerous experiments with black holes, which threaten to annihilate both La Gias and Earth. His seething hatred for the antagonist Shu Shirakawa—who killed his mentor Zeoroot and betrayed La Gias—also drives much of his anger and determination, though his focus remains on protecting the two worlds from mutual destruction.

In the story, Masaki first appears as the mysterious pilot of the Cybuster, engaging DC cleanup crews, but quickly becomes an ally of the main protagonist, Ken Andoh. Their partnership is central to the plot: Masaki reveals the existence of La Gias and the magical principles behind the Masō Kishin, then works alongside Ken to thwart DC’s plans. His relationship with Ken evolves into a trusting friendship, and he also maintains bonds with his adoptive family in La Gias, including his mentor Zeoroot (before his death) and his sister‑like Presia.

Over the course of the series, Masaki undergoes notable development. His impulsiveness is tempered by the weight of his responsibilities, and he learns to make difficult decisions for the greater good. Confronting his own flaws through the demands of piloting the Cybuster, he matures into a more measured, accountable individual while still retaining his core bravery and idealism.

Masaki’s abilities are closely tied to the Cybuster. As a pilot, he excels in high‑speed combat, using the mecha’s superior agility and evasion to outmaneuver foes. The Cybuster is the Machine God Armor of wind, and its patron spirit Cyfis can, in extreme circumstances, possess the machine, granting Masaki nearly godlike power for a single, devastating strike. Additionally, his familiars Kuro and Shiro operate independent weapon units that support him in battle. His emotional volatility, once a liability, becomes an asset because it fuels the prana essential for the Cybuster’s operation.
