Description
Fran Doll is a fictional character from the Turn A Gundam television series. She is a young woman of the Moonrace, the civilization of humans who have lived on the Moon for centuries. At the age of fifteen, Fran was one of three advance scouts, alongside Loran Cehack and Keith Leger, sent to Earth two years before the main Dianna Counter landing force. Her mission was to survey the planet and prepare for the return of the Moonrace. Upon arriving on Earth, she settled in the town of Nocis in the nation of Luzianna, where she found work at a printing office.

Fran is a teenager of seventeen years with a characteristic appearance that includes short brown hair cut to ear length and black eyes often depicted with distinctive star-shaped highlights. Her typical attire includes a dress and beret, and during her work, she is often seen wearing an apron or carrying her camera.

In terms of personality, Fran is depicted as a dedicated and professional individual with a strong sense of purpose. When hostilities break out between the Earth's Militia and the Moonrace forces, she volunteers to become a war photographer for the Nocis Chronicle newspaper. She is persistent and committed to documenting the reality of the conflict, even when she is fully aware that her photographs are subject to censorship by the Luzianna government. Her motivation stems from a desire to record events truthfully and to bear witness to the war, a task she takes seriously regardless of the risks. This dedication is shown when she boards mobile suits to capture images of battle scenes, demonstrating a professional bravery that borders on recklessness. Despite her profession, she is not without moral conflict; she briefly questions the ethics of her friend Keith's actions, which involve selling bread to both the Earth and Moonrace forces, initially seeing it as profiting from the war before reconciling her views.

Fran's role in the story is primarily that of an observer and chronicler of the events of the Earth-Moon conflict. She accompanies the Inglessa Militia and its leader, Militia, on numerous campaigns, using her camera to capture the war’s progression, from the ruins of battlefields to the expressions of the pilots. Her work takes her from the surface of the Earth to space when she boards the battleship Willgem, continuing her documentation of the conflict in the lunar environment.

Regarding key relationships, Fran shares a strong bond with her fellow advance scouts, Loran and Keith, who are among her closest friends and confidants, having shared the crucial experience of their mission to Earth. She is friends with other young women involved in the conflict, including Sochie Heim and Miashei Kune. Notably, during her time reporting on the Inglessa Militia, she enters a romantic relationship with a soldier named Joseph Yaht.

Throughout the story, Fran undergoes a natural progression from a printer to a full-fledged war correspondent. Her personal development is tied to her growing commitment to her craft and her navigation of the moral complexities of war. Her relationship with Joseph deepens to the point that she eventually gives birth to his child. After the war concludes, she entrusts the child to Joseph and continues her career as a reporter, indicating that her dedication to journalism remains her central life's work. Her notable abilities include her proficiency with a camera, her courage in dangerous situations, and her professional skill as a photographer capable of capturing significant moments amidst chaos. She does not pilot a mobile suit or possess any combat abilities, as her power lies in her ability to observe and record.
