Gym Ghingnham is the charismatic and volatile leader of the Moonrace's armed forces, a position that has been held by his family for generations as the military arm supporting the Soriel royal line. He is introduced as a powerful and unpredictable figure whose love of combat far exceeds the political ambitions of those around him.
Physically, Gym presents a striking image, carrying a katana as a personal affectation, and his costume and stylized topknot are designed to evoke the image of a powerful samurai warlord, reminiscent of figures like Oda Nobunaga.
