Description
Kurisaburou Kurinohara, who operates under the alias Dr. Marron Flower, is a space pirate and class A criminal in the anime series Dokkoida?!. To reduce his prison sentence, he agrees to serve as a test opponent for two competing powered suit prototypes, engaging in staged battles against Dokkoida and Neruloid Girl. In his villainous role, he pilots a giant robot and deploys his inventions to cause citywide destruction, all while trying to unmask the heroes, a success that would earn him a full pardon.
When not rampaging through the city, Kurinohara lives incognito at Cosmos House apartment complex alongside his roommate Clicker. There he adopts the guise of a retired, grandfatherly figure who is genial and easy to converse with. This domestic side reveals a deep fondness for dating simulation games and romantic anime, a hobby that frequently crosses into perverted territory and contributes much of the character’s comedic flavor. The stark divide between his kindly civilian demeanor and his megalomaniacal criminal persona is a core joke of the series, since heroes and villains dwell in the same building and fail to recognize one another out of costume.
His motivations are fundamentally pragmatic: he participates in the suit trials to shorten his jail term and would gladly end the competition by discovering his adversaries’ true identities. Simultaneously, a genuine passion for invention and a self-appointed genius drive many of his actions. He is an eccentric inventor who typically speaks in a monotone and rarely appears without his lab coat. His behavior can swing from coldly analytical to dramatically theatrical, yet he remains approachable and even warm when off the clock.
Kurinohara’s role in the story is that of a recurring antagonist who must challenge the heroes in increasingly absurd battles, thereby testing the suits’ capabilities. Despite his destructive rampages, the comedic structure of the series ensures that his schemes ultimately fail and normal life resumes at Cosmos House. His primary relationship is with his roommate Clicker, with whom he shares living quarters. He also interacts civilly with other apartment residents, including the heroes, though neither side ever pieces together their secret identities.
Character development across the series is limited; he remains a fairly static comedic foil. The humor instead derives from the contrast between his two lives and from his unapologetically otaku hobbies. His notable abilities include inventing and controlling a wide range of advanced technology, piloting a giant mech, and employing his intellect to devise tactical attacks during suit tests. This blend of scientific genius and petty criminality makes him a memorable part of the show’s parody of superhero tropes.
