Description
Jelly Jiggler, known in the original Japanese version as Tokoro Tennosuke, is a character from the manga and anime series Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo. He is a living, sentient, humanoid mass of tokoroten, a type of cold jelly dessert, which is reflected in his name and his core abilities. Standing as a blue, blocky figure with orange eyes, his very form is malleable and amorphous, drawing a resemblance to figures like Gumby. His birth date is given as October 10 in some sources and his blood type is listed as lychee, a playful nod to his believed flavor.

Jelly Jiggler's early history is somewhat mysterious and steeped in absurdity. He is implied to have spent a significant portion of his existence living in a supermarket, believing his ultimate purpose in life was to be sold to a customer and subsequently eaten. Despite his low price, no one wanted to buy a giant, talking jelly product, leading to his dejection and a deep-seated resentment towards other, more successful food items, particularly tofu. His hatred for tofu became a defining personality trait. After being fired from the supermarket for scaring away customers, he found new employment as a soldier for the Hair Hunters of the Maruhage Empire, the primary antagonistic force in the series. Over twenty years, he rose through the ranks from a lowly soldier in D-Block to become the fearsome captain of A-Block, one of the most powerful divisions in the empire.

On the surface, Jelly Jiggler often presents himself as the most serious and level-headed member of the main trio, which includes the protagonist Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo and the erratic Don Patch. He tries to maintain a calm and menacing demeanor, especially when acting as a villain. However, this serious exterior conceals an extremely emotional and sensitive interior. He is prone to bursts of anger, bouts of crying, and fits of silliness that rival his comrades, creating a constant contrast between his cool facade and his over-the-top feelings. This emotional volatility is a direct reflection of his years of rejection and disappointment at the supermarket. His core motivation shifts from being eaten to simply finding a place where he belongs and is valued, a desire that is ultimately fulfilled when he joins Bobobo's team.

His role in the story begins as a formidable antagonist. When Bobobo and his friends confront him, Jelly Jiggler proves to be a significant threat, forcing the heroes to use their fusion technique for the first time to defeat him. Following his defeat, he returns to the supermarket, only to be purchased by Bobobo, who needed an extra warrior. This marks his transition from enemy to a recurring, and often reluctant, ally. As a member of the team, his role frequently shifts between a source of pathos, comic relief, and an unlikely hero. Despite his power, he is often disrespected by his allies; Bobobo frequently uses him as a projectile or a shield, and Don Patch rarely misses an opportunity to belittle him. However, he has proven his worth on several occasions, notably defeating two of the powerful Six Cyber Knights in the Emperor Playoffs arc, briefly reminding everyone why he was once a captain.

Jelly Jiggler shares a particularly complex history with Bobobo, who knew him as a child and nicknamed him Jelly Roll. Bobobo made a promise to defeat him if he ever turned evil, a promise he ultimately fulfilled. Despite this, and Bobobo's constant abuse, they remain steadfast friends. His relationship with other characters is defined by his need for acceptance. The character Gasser and the heroine Beauty show him occasional respect and sympathy, such as when they voted for him in a food popularity contest knowing he would be sad otherwise. Conversely, the character OVER holds an inexplicable and intense hatred for him, often attacking him on sight.

Throughout the series, Jelly Jiggler exhibits notable development. He begins as a depressed and resentful grocery item, transforms into a confident and powerful captain, and finally finds his place as a quirky but loyal hero. A significant part of his character development involves his discovery of a handkerchief covered with the Japanese hiragana character for nu (ぬ). Initially used to wipe away tears, this item fuels an all-consuming obsession with the character, while he simultaneously develops an irrational hatred for the character ne (ね).

Jelly Jiggler's primary ability is derived from his gelatinous body. His fighting style is called the Shivering True Fist, known in the English dub as the Fist of the Wobble-Wobble, which allows him to stretch, mold, and reshape his body into any form he can imagine. He can use this power to mimic weapons, stretch his limbs for long-range attacks, or flatten himself to evade strikes. Furthermore, his body possesses a natural regenerative ability; if he is cut or blown apart, he can easily put himself back together. This makes him incredibly durable and difficult to defeat permanently, despite often being the team's designated punching bag. However, he has a significant weakness: exposure to water makes his body become soggy and helpless. He also notably lacks the ability to fly, a skill many other characters in the series possess. In combat, he sometimes wields a daikon radish like a sword, adding to his bizarre fighting arsenal. He is also an integral component for several fusion techniques, most notably combining with Bobobo and Don Patch to form the powerful warrior BoboPatchinosuke.
