Description
Noia Torpeda, known in Japanese as Gyorai Girl and in English as Torpedo Girl, is a character from the anime and manga series Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo who first appears as a powerful and unpredictable force. She is a living female torpedo with human arms and legs, and she shares a body with her counterpart Over, with only one of the two able to exist at a time. Noia Torpeda is 28 years old, three years older than Over, though the reason for the age gap is not explained.
Her background is tied to her role as a Legendary Idiot Killer, a legendary group of warriors sworn to attack and eliminate anyone who makes jokes or acts foolishly. This role defines her personality: she is extremely short-tempered and becomes enraged at the slightest sign of silliness, immediately launching her bomb-like body at the offender. She sees herself as a protector of sanity and is a nightmare for characters who rely on absurd hajike attacks, such as Bo-bobo, Don Patch, and Jelly Jiggler, because her seriousness neutralizes their unconventional fighting styles.
Despite her aggressive exterior, Noia Torpeda has several contradictory traits that hint at her own hajike nature. She is obsessed with the word torpedo, even laughing at it, and she is crazy enough to survive in the bizarre world of the series. Over time, her initial hatred for the main group softens; she comes to view Bo-bobo, Don Patch, and Jelly Jiggler as children who need her guidance, and she will protect them if they are in danger. She can also unlock hidden abilities in others, such as awakening a hidden attack in Bo-bobo during his battle with his brother Bebebe-be Be-bebe. In the sequel series Shinsetsu Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, she helps Bo-bobo evolve his Hanage Shinken into its more advanced form.
Noia Torpeda also has a notable romantic side. She was once in love with Hatenko, but after he betrayed her, she placed a Kill Seal on him and cast him out. Later, upon meeting Softon, she falls deeply in love with him and pursues him obsessively. Her affection remains even when Softon loses his Babylon abilities and his head mask, revealing a normal human face, which initially disappoints her.
Her primary combat ability involves using her torpedo-shaped body to fly at high speed and smash into opponents with tremendous force. Her body is invincible in this form and cannot be penetrated by any attacks, including martial arts fists. Her more powerful techniques fall under the Gokuaku Zanketsu Shinken style, releasing multiple torpedoes that overwhelm an enemy. She also occasionally performs hajike abilities herself, further blurring the line between her serious mission and her own absurdity. Throughout the series, she evolves from a hostile antagonist into a reluctant ally and even a mentor figure, while maintaining her explosive temper and her signature intolerance for foolishness.
