Description
R.D. is a young man who has spent most of his life in Blue City on Planet Zi. His father, Harris, left him when he was very young, and he never really knew his mother. Despite this, his father's influence shaped the course of his life: Harris dedicated himself to searching for the legendary Alpha Zoid, a Zoid believed to be more powerful than any other, and R.D. came to passionately believe in its existence based on the rumors his father left behind. R.D. becomes determined to follow in his father's footsteps and find the Alpha Zoid himself.

To support that goal, R.D. works as a delivery boy for a company called Mach Storm, which also operates as a Zoid battling team. He becomes a licensed Zi-Fighter and the pilot of the Liger Zero. At the start of his journey, he has yet to grow into a skilled Zoid pilot, and he is described as brash and somewhat irresponsible, with a laid-back and occasionally lazy personality. In his first Coliseum battle, he comes up against a team capable of fusing Zoids together, which introduces him to this aspect of Zoid combat. He later discovers that his own Zoid is capable of fusion as well, and he becomes the third person to find his Fuzor Zoid, the Fire Phoenix. After a close call while fighting his rival Blake, the Fire Phoenix saves Liger Zero and R.D., and he eventually learns to fuse the two Zoids into the powerful Liger Zero Phoenix.

Despite his easygoing nature, R.D. cares deeply for his friends and will go out of his way to protect them. He also views the Liger Zero as a friend rather than merely a machine, forming a close bond with his Zoid. His relationships are central to his story: his rivalry with Blake, who pilots the Berserk Fury, is a constant source of tension, as the two are always trying to outdo each other. Within Mach Storm, he works alongside teammates such as Hop, Sweet, Helmet, and Sigma, and he grows into someone others can rely on. His unresolved feelings about his father, who left him when he was young, drive his determination to prove himself and to carry on the search for the Alpha Zoid.

Over the course of the series, R.D. matures considerably. He starts as an inexperienced and somewhat careless young man and develops into a skilled pilot and a capable leader. His role in the story expands beyond personal ambition as he and Mach Storm become aware of a conspiracy to take control of Blue City and fight to stop it, with his quest for the Alpha Zoid intertwined with these larger events. His notable abilities include his growth as a Zoid pilot, his unique capacity to perform fusions with his partner Zoids to create the Liger Zero Phoenix, and his developing leadership, all of which make him a central figure in the battles and conflicts of his world.
