Lady Himiko is the cruel queen of Yamatai in the Yamato chapter of the anime Phoenix, which adapts Osamu Tezuka's manga of the same name. She rules her kingdom with a merciless fist, caring only for her own beauty and power. To enforce justice, she examines the cracks on a turtle shell placed into a fire, using this divination method to pass judgments. Her brother, Susano, attempts to keep her actions in check, but she remains largely unyielding. Her role in the story is that of an antagonistic ruler whose oppressive reign drives conflict, as her troops slaughter innocent villagers in their search for the Phoenix. Himiko's primary motivation is the preservation of her appearance and authority, and she possesses no supernatural abilities beyond her ritualistic shell-reading.
