Description
Attila is a male agent of Team Rocket who appears in the special episode The Legend of Thunder, which is part of the Pokémon Chronicles series. He operates as a field agent with the specialized rank of Tokumukousakuin, or Special Duty Construction Member, and works in a partnership with an agent named Hun. His name, along with his partner's, is derived from the historical figure Attila the Hun, and his Japanese name, Buson, comes from the poet Yosa Buson. He is originally from the Johto region and was raised on a Pokémon Ranch, where his early experiences involved herding and corralling Pokémon. This background is cited as the source of his notable physical strength and muscular build.

In terms of appearance, Attila has blond hair and is almost never seen without his concealing sunglasses. His design is said to evoke the image of a tanuki, a Japanese raccoon dog, with his spiky hairstyle and eyewear. He presents a masculine and tough appearance, which contrasts with his partner Hun's more androgynous and effeminate demeanor. Despite his own formidable strength and pride in his abilities, Attila assumes a submissive operational role in his partnership with Hun, consistently accepting Hun's commands and guidance without objection or visible frustration. He is portrayed as being easily impressed and somewhat docile when following Hun's lead, though he shows flashes of a fierce temper, especially when a situation starts to slip out of his control. For instance, he reacts with particular anger when Marina successfully uses her Pokégear to call for backup, destroying the device in frustration. He is also known to use colorful language, frequently employing the word rodeo to describe his actions and tactics.

Attila's primary motivation in The Legend of Thunder is to capture the legendary Electric-type Pokémon Raikou. This mission is conducted under the orders of Team Rocket's leader, Giovanni, and with the technological support of Professor Sebastian, a Team Rocket scientist. The group aims to use a special device called the Miracle Crystal to attract and trap Raikou, intending to harness its immense power for world domination. Attila and Hun are presented as elite operatives, and Attila himself dreams of the fame that capturing Raikou would bring, hoping that he and Hun will become legends. He even muses about having Raikou's attacks named in their honor. His role in the mission is primarily practical and operational: he is responsible for handling the machinery, including the apparatus that controls the Miracle Crystal and various specialized robots used in the capture attempt.

Throughout the special, Attila's key relationship is with his partner, Hun. Their dynamic is clearly defined, with Hun acting as the commander and strategist while Attila follows orders. Though Attila is proud of his strength and is introduced as a formidable brawler, he never challenges Hun's authority. He also works alongside Professor Sebastian, but this relationship is more professional and mission-focused. His adversaries in the story are the young trainers Jimmy, Marina, and Vincent, who seek to rescue Raikou. During his confrontations with them, Attila demonstrates tactical competence and maintains his composure through initial setbacks, but he ultimately shows an intolerance for the unexpected interference that jeopardizes his mission.

As the story progresses, Attila shows little personal development, remaining a dedicated and obedient agent of Team Rocket throughout the multiple attempts to secure Raikou. While he experiences frustration and anger when his plans are foiled, he never deviates from his mission or questions his loyalty to the organization. After the final failure to capture Raikou, he executes an orderly retreat alongside Hun. He makes a brief subsequent appearance in the opening sequence of the film Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, where he is seen alongside Hun and Professor Sebastian having captured the legendary Pokémon Rayquaza.

Attila possesses several notable abilities and resources. He is physically powerful, capable of crushing a Pokégear simply by clenching his fist. In battle, he commands at least two Pokémon. His primary battling partner is a Skarmory, which is depicted as particularly strong and resilient, and he also uses a Muk. He is proficient in operating complex Team Rocket machinery, including the Crystal System designed to absorb electrical energy and lure Electric-type Pokémon. During field operations, he shows a capacity for strategic thinking and remains level-headed under pressure, executing organized retreats when a battle turns against him.
