Description
Ondine, known as Misty in the English version, is a young Pokémon Trainer from Azuria, the Cerulean City of the Kanto region, and the Gym Leader of the Cerulean Gym, where she specializes in Water-type Pokémon. She is the youngest of the four sisters known as the Sensational Sisters, who long managed the gym before her. In Pokémon Chronicles, her appearances center on her return to that responsibility and the difficulties she faces as she steps into the role of a leader in her own right.

Her background begins in the main series when she meets Ash, who borrows her bicycle to rush an injured Pikachu to a Pokémon Center and returns it destroyed. She follows him on his journey, officially until he repays the damage, but she eventually lets go of that goal and continues traveling through Kanto, the Orange Islands, and Johto alongside Ash and Brock to improve as a Water-type Trainer and pursue her ambition of becoming a master of Water Pokémon. During this time she adds Horsea and Psyduck to her team, which also includes Staryu, Starmie, and Goldeen, and she raises a Togepi from an egg, treating it almost like her own child.

Ondine has a strong and assertive personality. She is stubborn, easily provoked, and quick to lose her temper, especially when she feels insulted or when someone claims that non-Water Pokémon are superior to Water-types. At the same time, she is deeply affectionate toward cute Pokémon, particularly Water-types, and fiercely loyal to her friends. She also carries a well-known weakness: a panicked fear of Bug-type Pokémon, Ghost-type Pokémon, and Gyarados, a fear that often gets played for comedy but also shows her more vulnerable side.

Her motivations in Pokémon Chronicles revolve around proving herself as a Gym Leader. In the episode Cerulean Blues, she returns home to take over the Cerulean Gym and discovers that the situation has deteriorated in her absence, with a rampaging Gyarados causing chaos and a rival pair known as the Invincible Brothers trying to seize control of the gym. Ondine must confront both threats to protect her home and establish her authority as the new leader. In The Blue Badge of Courage, she helps her friend Sakura, who has come to challenge the gym, by traveling with her and Tracey to the home of a badge maker after the gym runs out of badges, showing her willingness to go out of her way for others. In A Date With Delcatty, she spends time with Casey and attends an Electabuzz baseball match, while Team Rocket members Butch and Cassidy scheme to steal the Delcatty of a Trainer who has feelings for her, placing her at the center of the conflict. Another episode focused on her involves Luvdisc and a love-themed battle, highlighting her competitive spirit and her more sentimental side.

Her key relationships shape much of her role. Her three sisters, Daisy, Violet, and Lily, are the people she steps in for, and her growth as a Gym Leader is partly defined by her desire to live up to the gym's legacy while making it her own. Her bond with Ash is central to her character history: the two argue constantly but share a deep friendship, and over time she develops romantic feelings for him, which she rarely admits and which surface as jealousy whenever other girls take an interest in him. Her relationship with Brock is that of a longtime traveling companion, and the two often work together with Ash against common threats. Her attachment to Togepi reveals a maternal, protective side beneath her sharp temper, and she cares for the young Pokémon devotedly throughout their time together. The Invincible Brothers act as her rivals in Chronicles, while Butch and Cassidy serve as recurring adversaries she must outsmart in defense of her city and her friends.

Over the course of her appearances, Ondine develops from a hot-tempered young Trainer who follows Ash for personal reasons into a capable and responsible Gym Leader who can defend her gym, support other Trainers, and handle crises on her own. She does not lose the fiery personality that defines her, but she channels it into her duties, and her repeated declaration of her goal to become a Water Pokémon Master and make Cerulean Gym the best of its kind reflects her steady growth.

As a battler, Ondine is a skilled Water-type specialist. Her team is built around strong Water Pokémon such as Starmie and Gyarados, and her position as Gym Leader gives her the authority to award the Cascade Badge to Trainers who defeat her. Her talent extends beyond battling to the care and raising of young Pokémon, as shown by her devoted handling of Togepi, and her combination of battling ability, protective instincts, and stubborn determination makes her one of the more prominent figures in the stories centered on her in Pokémon Chronicles.
