Description
Kamiya Atsushi begins his journey as a second-year student at Kakegawa High School, where he serves as the vice-captain of the soccer team. Known for wearing the number seven jersey, his position is that of a midfielder, specifically a right midfielder. He forms a deep and pivotal friendship with his talented teammate, Kubo Yoshiharu. Before his high school years, Kamiya struggled with a selfish style of play during middle school, which led to his teammates rejecting him. This changed when Kubo arrived, and together they developed into a powerful and cohesive partnership.

On the surface, Kamiya often comes across as rude and sometimes conceited, and he is known to react strongly, especially when anyone speaks ill of Kubo. Despite this rough exterior, he is fundamentally a kind-hearted and good-natured person. He is a natural leader who cares deeply for his team and carries a tremendous sense of responsibility. His leadership is most prominently displayed after a tragic event: the death of Kubo. In the wake of this loss, Kamiya steps up to become the team captain. His first major decision as captain is to entrust the number ten jersey, previously worn by Kubo, to his teammate Tanaka Toshihiko, honoring Kubo's will that Toshi should succeed him.

As captain, Kamiya embodies the role of a "fighter" and is known for his enthusiastic and hard-working style of play, which earned him the nickname "Fighting General". He possesses an exceptionally high psychological fortitude, constantly maintaining the fighting spirit needed to motivate his squad. A fast and strategic thinker, he creates swift strategies that help the team and is able to manage the group with great care. This was evident when a conflict split the club into two factions over the team's playing philosophy. Rather than choose a side, Kamiya arranged a practice match between the two groups, acting as the referee to help his teammates rediscover their own motivations and unite as a single team.

Kamiya’s abilities on the field are formidable, and he is recognized as one of the best playmakers in the nation. His signature skill is a sharp, incisive pass that can easily confuse opponents. As his skills continue to improve, his leadership and overall ability are considered to be on par with his late friend Kubo. His talents are not limited to just passing; he is a master of reading the game, a skill that makes him highly respected and feared by opposing teams. He is also proficient with both short tackles and long-range passes, demonstrating a complete understanding of the midfield.

Following his graduation from Kakegawa High School, Kamiya’s soccer career reaches the highest levels. He moves to Europe, where he plays as an ace for a famous Italian team before being selected to represent the Japanese national team. His connection to the sport and his alma mater continues into the future, as he later reappears to become the coach for a new generation of soccer players at Kakegawa High School in the series Shoot Goal to the Future. Beyond soccer, he has a noted close relationship with his family, particularly his sister, being described as essentially a "sister-con".
