Description
The character in question is properly known as Lance Corporal Dororo from the anime and manga series Sgt. Frog. Originally born on the planet Keron under the name Lance Corporal Zeroro, he graduated from the Keron Military Academy with his rank and was initially assigned to serve as the assassin for the Keroro Platoon, which also includes Keroro, Giroro, Tamama, and Kululu. His mission, alongside the others, was to conquer the planet Pekopon, which is what the Keronian invaders call Earth. However, after crash-landing on Earth, Zeroro was rescued and befriended by a human ninja-in-training named Koyuki Azumaya. Deeply inspired by the ninja way of life and the peaceful world he discovered, he abandoned his original mission, changed his name to Dororo, and chose to embrace a new path.

In terms of personality, Dororo stands out within the platoon for his kind, meek, and honorable nature. He has a strong personal code of ethics and will refuse to participate in any invasion plans that could harm people’s feelings, the environment, or cause unnecessary suffering. He is a creature of discipline who spends his free time training, reading, or observing the actions of his former comrades. This strong moral compass and serene demeanor are juxtaposed with a recurring comedic tragedy: he is constantly forgotten by the other members of the Keroro Platoon. This neglect triggers what is known as his psychological trauma switch, causing him to retreat to a corner and cry over his perceived insignificance. His speech is also a notable trait, as he speaks very formally, using archaic Japanese samurai phrases like de gozaru and referring to himself as sessha, further emphasizing his dedication to his adopted ninja identity.

Dororo’s role in the story primarily functions as the team’s stealth specialist and emotional heart. While the rest of the platoon often devises comically destructive or self-serving schemes, Dororo acts as a moral anchor, though his quiet nature means his protests are frequently ignored. His reintegration into the platoon is initially rocky, as he formally tries to resign due to his conflicting loyalties, but after a series of incidents where the platoon comes to his and Koyuki’s rescue, he agrees to rejoin, though he maintains his Earth-first philosophy. He continues to live separately from the main group, usually residing in a traditional Japanese house in the mountains or near the Hinata residence, alongside Koyuki.

His key relationships are defined by this unique status. He shares a deep and supportive bond with Koyuki Azumaya, who was the catalyst for his transformation and remains his closest confidante, often serving as the only person who consistently remembers and encourages him. Regarding the platoon, he still looks up to Sergeant Keroro and Corporal Giroro as childhood friends, though they are often the primary offenders when it comes to forgetting his name or his presence entirely. While Dororo does not undergo a dramatic shift in his core personality, his development lies in the balancing act of maintaining his new identity as a protector of Earth while navigating his lingering ties and duties to the Keronian military. Throughout the series, episodes that focus on him often highlight his loneliness but ultimately reaffirm his loyalty to his friends, forcing the other characters to briefly acknowledge his value to the team.

In terms of notable abilities, Dororo is unmatched in the platoon when it comes to ninja stealth techniques and speed-based attacks. He is a master of infiltration, espionage, and silent movement, often appearing and disappearing without a trace. His physical capabilities are highly advanced, and he always carries a sheathed knife on his back, reinforcing his identity as a warrior. His ninja training allows him to perform various martial arts feats and reconnaissance missions that the other frogs, who rely more on technology or overt force, cannot accomplish.
