Description
Joruru, also known as Zoruru, is a character from the Garuru Platoon, serving as its assassin with the rank of sergeant or lance corporal. His most striking physical trait is that the left half of his body is mechanized, essentially making him a cyborg. This left side includes a metal plate covering part of his face and a retractable blade that can extend from his hand, his primary weapon. The remaining organic half of his body is a gray color, and his visible eye has a black sclera with a red iris, giving him a distinctly eerie appearance. He wears a cap adorned with his symbol, a three-pronged shuriken, over torn cloth wrapped around his head, a style similar to Dororo's.

Joruru is a character shrouded in mystery, both in appearance and in nature. He is portrayed as cold, ruthless, and an efficient killer, capable of dispatching skilled opponents like Koyuki without hesitation. His speech is typically short and direct, even towards superior officers like Garuru, suggesting a sense of detachment from the rigid military hierarchy. The defining aspect of his personality is a quiet, intense, and deeply personal obsession. He holds a powerful grudge against Dororo, whom he still calls by his old name, Zeroro. This grudge is the central motivation for his actions; he confesses that he has no real interest in the invasion of Earth, having come to the planet solely to find Dororo and settle their past.

The exact nature of the conflict between Joruru and Dororo is never explicitly explained, remaining one of the series' enduring mysteries. What is known is that they have a history together, having been members of the same Keron Army special forces unit, Assassin X-1. Popular fan speculation suggests that Joruru's severe injuries, which led to his body being mechanized, may have been caused by Dororo during a training accident or mission gone wrong, but this has never been officially confirmed in the story. Despite his overwhelming desire for revenge, his quest ends in tragic irony. When he finally confronts Dororo and delivers his accusations, Dororo has absolutely no memory of who Joruru is, mistaking him for several other former classmates. This ultimate snub, being forgotten by a character famously overlooked by his own team, causes Joruru to become despondent and fade away in despair.

Joruru’s role in the story is primarily as an antagonist during the Garuru Platoon story arc, where his actions are driven by his personal vendetta rather than the platoon's mission. His development is minimal but poignant. The central tragedy of his character is his lack of presence. Although his entire existence is focused on a single person, that person has completely erased him from memory. This ironic fate is the source of a recurring gag where he is often forgotten, even in official material such as character introduction pages. In terms of abilities, beyond his physical enhancements and fighting skills, his signature technique is the Zero Dimension Slash, a powerful attack he uses in combat. His greatest weakness, however, is his almost non-existent presence, which is considered even more profound than Dororo's, leading to him being easily and frequently overlooked by others.
