TV-Series
Description
Gang Hanbyeol, known in the original version as Natsumi Hinata, is the proactive and athletically gifted older daughter of the Hinata family. Physically, she is a middle school student recognizable by her light red hair, which is almost always styled into distinctive twintails. Her role within her household is significant, as her mother is frequently away for work, leaving Hanbyeol to manage most of the家务, including cleaning and cooking. This responsibility has made her highly proficient in domestic tasks and has fostered a mature, independent streak for her age.
In terms of personality, Hanbyeol is primarily defined by her energetic, forthright, and courageous nature. She is a natural leader at school, excelling in all sports and maintaining a popular reputation among her peers. This outward strength, however, is balanced by distinct vulnerabilities. Despite her bravery in the face of aliens, she harbors intense, almost comical fears of supernatural phenomena, ghosts, slugs, and other slimy or frightening creatures. When pushed into a genuine crisis or caught off guard by her fears, she can quickly become frustrated or despondent, revealing the ordinary teenage girl beneath her tough exterior.
Her primary role in the story is that of the Earth's last line of defense, a title earned through her constant vigilance against the invasion attempts of the Keroro Platoon, the alien frogs living in her home. She serves as the primary obstacle to Sergeant Keroro's schemes, often violently punishing him and his squad for their failures or for causing chaos. Her motivations stem from a deep-seated desire to protect her family, especially her younger brother Fuyuki, and to maintain a sense of normalcy in a household that is anything but ordinary. While she is endlessly frustrated by the frogs' antics, she also genuinely cares for them as an unconventional surrogate family.
Key relationships define her interactions. Her dynamic with Keroro is a central pillar of the series; while she constantly berates and physically disciplines him, there exists an underlying current of mutual respect and concern. In contrast, she is largely oblivious to the feelings of Corporal Giroro, who is deeply and loyally in love with her. Her softer side often emerges around her crush, the radio host Saburo Mutsumi. She shares a protective and caring bond with her brother Fuyuki and is close friends with the shy ninja Koyuki Azumaya.
Hanbyeol possesses notable abilities, the most prominent of which are her superhuman physical capabilities. She demonstrates incredible strength, speed, and agility that far surpass normal human limits, allowing her to easily dispatch alien threats with a single punch or kick. To enhance her combat effectiveness, she is sometimes equipped with a specialized powered suit developed by the platoon's scientist, Kururu. This suit grants her the ability to fly at supersonic speeds, provides defensive energy shields, and is armed with twin beam sabers stored in her hair ribbons, officially designating her as a formidable, universe-level guardian. Over the course of the series, her character shows a subtle development, with her initially extreme and violent methods of discipline mellowing slightly as she grows more accustomed to her chaotic life with the alien frogs.
