TV-Series
Description
Laetitia is the third persona of Margaret Burton, created when Margaret used her Gift to split herself after the traumatic event of killing her own father twelve years before the main story. Her role is the memory keeper, the part of Margaret that holds the full recollection of the patricide and the events in Gazth-Sonika, allowing the other two personae, Margaret herself and Madlax, to exist without that burden. As a result, Laetitia is confined to the Sanctuary, a place located behind the Door of Truth, and cannot leave that realm.
Her name originally belonged to Margaret's favorite doll, which Margaret carried with her after surviving the plane crash. Visually, she appears as a mysterious little girl with red hair and green eyes, often carrying a ragdoll and frequently seen in the company of Poupee, a yellow-haired boy who is the earlier self of Carrossea Doon. She has a ghostly aura and is described as strange and unsettling.
Laetitia’s personality is quiet and ethereal, marked by a sense of sorrow and detachment, as she exists solely to preserve the truth that the other two parts of Margaret cannot face. Her primary motivation is to remain in the Sanctuary and guard those memories until the truth is finally confronted. She does not drive the plot forward through action, but her existence is essential to the story's resolution. When Margaret finally recovers her lost memories and accepts what happened, she is able to fully acknowledge Laetitia. In the end, Margaret adopts Laetitia as her younger sister, finally allowing her to leave the Sanctuary and join the living world.
Laetitia has no combat abilities or supernatural powers of her own. Her sole function is to hold the memories, and she is defined by that role rather than by any active agency. Her key relationship is with Margaret, from whom she was split, and she is also tied to Madlax as one of the three parts of the same original person. During the series, she is also frequently seen alongside Poupee. Her development is passive; she remains in the Sanctuary until Margaret reclaims her memories, at which point she is freed from her isolation.
