Description
Nahal, also referred to in some sources as Nakhl, is a supporting character in the anime Madlax. She is a fighter from the village of Dwaiho and serves as the dedicated protector and agent of Lady Quanzitta Marison, a mystic figure in the war-torn country of Gazth-Sonika. Her background is rooted in loyalty and service, having been raised or trained to be an observer and operative for her mistress. Nahal is extremely agile and acrobatic, with exceptional skill in knife-throwing, knife-fighting, and general melee combat. She is widely regarded as the most capable hand-to-hand and bladed-weapons fighter in all of Gazth-Sonika, and she is the only character in the series to ever defeat the protagonist Madlax in direct combat. Her personality is pensive and contemplative; she tends to observe situations carefully before acting. Despite being trained to remain neutral and follow orders, she demonstrates strong self-awareness and emotional depth, notably coming to realize that she has developed feelings for Madlax. This internal conflict leads her to defy her assigned role of neutrality. In the latter part of the story, rather than strictly adhering to Quanzitta's directive to stay out of the conflict, Nahal chooses to assist Madlax and Elenore Baker in their mission to rescue Margaret Burton. She participates in the assault on Enfant's headquarters, fighting alongside them. Her key relationship is with her mistress Quanzitta Marison, whom she serves faithfully, and her evolving connection with Madlax marks her most significant personal development. Near the conclusion of the series, after Quanzitta's death, Nahal is last seen praying next to her master's corpse, indicating her enduring devotion. Her notable abilities include superhuman agility, expert knife combat, and the distinction of being the only fighter to best Madlax in a duel.
