Description
Kame Sennin appears in Dragon Ball Movie 2: Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle as a legendary martial arts master and the founder of the Turtle School. Known as the God of Martial Arts and often called Muten Rōshi, he is an elderly Earthling whose long life spans several centuries. His residence is a small island dwelling known as Kame House. In this film, his role is that of a mentor and the initiator of the central quest. His established characteristic as a "Dirty Old Man" is also on display, as his agreement to accept students is influenced by inappropriate material.
Personality-wise, Kame Sennin is depicted as a whimsical and perverted old man who is also a shrewd and experienced teacher. His motivations in this story revolve around finding worthy successors. When the young fighters Son Goku and Kuririn arrive seeking training, he devises a dangerous test of their courage and skill. Instead of simply agreeing to teach them, he sends them on a mission to a perilous location far to the west called the Devil's Hand. His stated condition is that whoever can bring back the legendary Sleeping Princess from the castle there will be accepted as his student. This task demonstrates his teaching philosophy of using real-world challenges to cultivate strength and resourcefulness in his pupils.
Regarding his key relationships, Kame Sennin functions as the focal point for the younger generation of martial artists. Goku and Kuririn are his prospective students, and their journey is undertaken to earn the right to learn from him. Later in the film, other characters like Bulma, Yamcha, and Oolong arrive at Kame House looking for Goku, revealing that his home serves as a hub for this group of friends. He informs them of the boys' destination, inadvertently leading them into the same dangerous situation. While not a direct participant in the final battles against the castle's ruler, Lucifer, Kame Sennin's influence is felt through the techniques and fighting spirit of his disciples.
In terms of development within the film, Kame Sennin has a minor but pivotal arc. He begins as a reluctant master, uninterested in taking on students. He is swayed by Kuririn's bribe and devises the quest for the Sleeping Princess as a seemingly impossible trial. By the conclusion, after Goku and Kuririn have proven their bravery by confronting demons, a giant monster, and the vampire lord Lucifer, Kame Sennin honors his word. Upon their return, he formally accepts both boys as his students, marking the beginning of their formal training under the Turtle School.
Kame Sennin demonstrates several notable abilities in the movie. Most prominently, he is the inventor of the Kamehameha wave, a powerful technique where he concentrates his ki into a devastating energy beam. This signature move is later utilized by Goku to defeat the primary antagonist. While not entering battle himself in this film, Kame Sennin also possesses the ability to greatly enhance his physical power. In a dramatic showing, he enters a Max Power state, where his muscles bulge immensely to harness his full strength, which he uses to demonstrate his overwhelming power and the potential his students might unlock.
