Description
Noel Adelaide is a fourteen-year-old girl from the island nation of Ivory in the world of L/R: Licensed by Royalty. She becomes involved with the intelligence organization Cloud 7 when she is selected as a candidate for the 15-Year Princess contest, a process that links her to the Ishtarian monarchy. Her background is firmly rooted in her home island: her grandfather serves as the caretaker of Ivory’s iconic clock tower, which has been damaged in a storm. The island lacks the funds to repair it, and this financial need becomes Noel’s primary motivation for participating in the contest.
Noel possesses a bright and positive personality, though she is also somewhat shy. She enjoys singing and is not afraid to use her voice to achieve her goals, as demonstrated when she returns to the capital to busk in order to raise money for the clock tower. She is accompanied by a small pet monkey named Kiki, which reflects her gentle and approachable nature. Despite her youth and civilian status, she demonstrates considerable resolve and independence, taking initiative to help her home even after being escorted back by the agents Jack Hofner and Rowe Rickenbacker.
Her role in the story is that of a protected person and a catalyst for the larger political conspiracy. Initially, Jack and Rowe are tasked with escorting her back to Ivory to avoid media attention. However, Noel’s own actions and her connection to the monarchy draw the two agents into a web of corruption involving the DTI and Duke Regent Rand. Over time, she develops a close working relationship with Jack and Rowe, who become her informal protectors. As the plot escalates, Noel’s supposed assassination is faked in front of a live audience as part of a black operation to expose the conspirators responsible for the death of Prince Sparda. After the operation, Noel continues her life as a civilian, effectively vanishing from the public eye.
Noel’s development is marked by her transition from a simple island girl with a personal goal to a central figure in a high‑stakes political struggle. She does not possess any notable combat abilities; her strengths lie in her sincerity, her singing, and her ability to inspire others. Her key relationships include her grandfather, whose care for the clock tower motivates her, and the two agents, who protect her and ultimately help secure her future. Through the events of the series, Noel remains a sympathetic and earnest character whose initial desire to help her island evolves into a role that inadvertently helps bring down powerful corrupt officials.
