Description
Cherubimon is a Mega-level Digimon recognized as one of the Three Great Angels, a trio of the highest-ranking angel-type Digimon responsible for maintaining the balance of the Digital World. Within this classification, its specific form is that of a beast-angel. Its very nature is one of extremes; while its original mission and inherent state align with absolute good, this purity creates a dangerous vulnerability, making it exceptionally easy for its body and spirit to be corrupted and inverted into a corresponding state of absolute evil.

In the narrative of Digimon Adventure 02: Hurricane Touchdown, Cherubimon serves as the primary antagonist and is the partner Digimon of a young boy named Wallace. It originates as the final evolutionary form of a Lopmon that was Wallace's companion from childhood.

The character’s journey in the film is defined by a tragic fall from grace. Possessing an inherently gentle nature as Lopmon, the Digimon is corrupted, transforming into the malevolent virus-attribute Cherubimon. In this evil state, the character becomes a being of immense destructive power and tragic confusion. Its primary motivation is not conquest or malice in a calculated sense, but rather an expression of profound inner turmoil and corrupted instinct. The evil Cherubimon's actions—such as absorbing other Digimon and regressing human children to a toddler state with its power—stem from a twisted, agonized state of being.

The role Cherubimon plays in the story is that of a catastrophic force born from a personal tragedy. After reverting to this corrupted form from its previous Ultimate level, Antylamon, it emerges as the final obstacle the DigiDestined must overcome. Its power is so great that the golden-armored forms of Magnamon and Gold Rapidmon are ultimately swallowed by the beast. The key relationship is, of course, with its human partner, Wallace. The climactic battle becomes an act of mercy, as the suffering Wendigomon—a previous corrupted form of the same Digimon—appears within Cherubimon and pleads with the golden warriors to end its pain by destroying it.

The character’s development concludes with its destruction. In its final moments, the evil Cherubimon reverts to its pure, good-natured form, the vaccine-attribute Cherubimon, before peacefully dissolving away. This act of purification and death restores the natural order, and shortly thereafter, a new Digitama appears and hatches into Lopmon once more, signaling a complete and hopeful rebirth.

Notable abilities include wielding powerful lightning-based attacks that evoke divine punishment. Its signature moves are Lightning Spear, where it creates and hurls a spear of pure lightning, and Heaven’s Judgment, which summons a massive thundercloud to rain down countless lightning strikes upon its foes. Beyond these offensive capabilities, the corrupted Cherubimon also demonstrates reality-warping abilities befitting an angel of its rank, such as manipulating time to revert living beings to younger states.
