Description
Megumi Minami, often called Megu by her friends, is a central figure and the sole female member of Class Q at the Dan Detective School. She is a middle school student with a kind and sensitive nature, though she has a short temper and is easily angered, which often leads her to keep her male classmates in check. Her sense of responsibility and caring personality make her an important emotional anchor for the group.

Megu lives in an apartment with her older sister, Akane, who attends a local university, while her parents work abroad. Prior to joining the Dan Detective School, she studied at the Tokyo National Talent Development Research Center, where she first encountered a fellow student named Yutaka Saburomaru, who later becomes a member of the rival Class A. Her past holds a significant secret. When she was very young, she met a boy named Ryu Amakusa at the development center, but the leader of the criminal organization Meiosei, known as King Hades, used hypnosis to erase this specific memory. This erased connection is the reason she becomes a target of the organization, putting her life in danger on more than one occasion.

Megu's most notable ability is her photographic memory, a gift that allows her to instantly memorize and never forget everything she sees, no matter how small the detail. This talent is invaluable during investigations, as she can act as a perfect witness, recalling the exact layout of a crime scene or noticing if a single piece of evidence has been moved. However, this ability is also a curse, as she is forced to remember gruesome and disturbing images, such as the sight of a corpse, with perfect clarity for the rest of her life. Within Class Q, her reasoning skills are considered lower than some of her peers, but her role is that of a crucial supporter, using her memory to provide the key facts that others build their deductions upon. In a unique storytelling choice, the majority of the narrative is presented through her internal monologue, making her the eyes through which the audience experiences many events.

Her relationships with her male teammates are a core part of her character development. While she initially feels a strong romantic attraction to the handsome and mysterious Ryu, she gradually develops deeper feelings for the protagonist, Kyu. A pivotal moment occurs when their teacher gives the class a difficult homework assignment. Stressed and unable to solve it, Megu encounters an old woman who needs help. After assisting the woman, she has a breakthrough and solves the puzzle. Later, she deduces that the old woman was actually Kyu in disguise, who had created the situation to help her find the answer on her own. Touched by his kindness, she secretly keeps a thousand-yen bill from him as a lucky charm. As the story progresses, her feelings for Kyu solidify, and by the end of the manga, they are confirmed to be in a romantic relationship.

As the only girl in a class of boys, the other four members of Class Q grow to care for her deeply and become very protective. She also forms friendships outside her class, becoming close with Sakurako Yukihira and Kuniko Touya from Class A.
