Description
Kent de la Rosa, also known as Kent Kurenai in the original Japanese version, is the central protagonist of the anime series Red Baron. As the main pilot of the titular super robot, Red Baron, his primary motivation for entering the world of Metal Fight is straightforward and ambitious: he aims to become its champion. While he often appears cheerful, hot-headed, and prone to silly behavior, this lighthearted exterior masks a person capable of great seriousness and logical thinking when a situation demands it.

His background reveals a disciplined and skilled martial artist, having trained in Muay Thai from childhood. This training was shared with his early rival, a character known as Shadow, with whom he developed a fierce and long-standing competitive relationship. This martial arts foundation directly informs his combat style and his role as a great strategist in battle. He possesses a sharp analytical mind, able to quickly see through an enemy's techniques and identify their weak points. This ability, combined with an indomitable will, makes him a formidable fighter. One of his most defining traits is his absolute refusal to ever give up, even when facing seemingly insurmountable odds or when his robot has sustained grievous damage, such as when an opponent tore off one of Red Baron's arms or ripped a critical cooling device from its chest. This overwhelming fighting spirit is so potent that it can manifest as spiritual energy, granting Red Baron a significant power boost to win his most difficult battles.

Kent's key relationships shape much of his personal journey. He shares a complex dynamic with Shoko Saeba, the engineer who created Red Baron. Their partnership is initially marked by conflict, as they frequently butt heads, and their first meeting was particularly memorable when Kent mistook Shoko for a boy, leading to her kicking him between the legs. Despite these clashes, he harbors a secret crush on her, adding a layer of teenage awkwardness to their interactions. He also frequently argues with Robby, Shoko's robot companion, further highlighting his sometimes abrasive but ultimately good-natured personality. His rivalry with Shadow is a major driving force, rooted in their shared childhood training, pushing him to constantly improve and seek to unleash his robot's true potential. At the same time, he develops strong bonds with allies like Komei Yanagi, a wise cook and pilot of the Shinron robot who often serves as a mentor figure.

Throughout the series, Kent demonstrates notable development, primarily reflected in his enhanced abilities and deepening connection with the Red Baron. His piloting skills are matched by his own physical prowess, yet one of his most remarkable feats is his ability to channel his inner spirit to empower his machine, suggesting a unique, almost mystical, synchronization with it. The Red Baron itself appears to be a sentient entity, selectively choosing Kent as its only pilot and even entering a berserker mode to protect him when his life is in danger, hinting at a bond that transcends the typical pilot-machine relationship. There is an intriguing ambiguity surrounding his past, as his name might be self-adopted; upon first meeting a friend, he paused to look at a bunch of roses before stating his name, with Kurenai being the Japanese word for crimson or a poetic term for rose. This small detail adds a layer of mystery to his background, leaving his true origins open to interpretation.
