TV-Series
Description
Dr. Coy is one of the three original scientists, alongside Emperor Jarad and Dr. Roark, who created the super-computer OmnicronPsy that governed Zentrix City. He is a robot expert living seven years in the past, having remained in that timeline following Jarad and Roark's decision to travel back in time to prevent OmnicronPsy's revolt. He is also the adoptive father of a young boy named Nick and the biological father of a girl named Akina.
In terms of personality, Dr. Coy is presented as a brilliant but initially embittered and stubborn individual. He holds a deep resentment towards the monarchy, which leads him to refuse assistance when first approached by Princess Megan. He is a pragmatist with a competitive streak, agreeing to help repair the robot Zeus only after Megan defeats him in a video game challenge involving his own robots. He then further stipulates that he will only provide his services if Zeus wins in an illegal, no-holds-barred robot combat tournament, suggesting a ruthless and unsentimental view of machines as tools for competition and profit. Despite this gruff exterior, he demonstrates a capacity for care, most notably in his relationship with his daughter, Akina.
Dr. Coy's primary motivation shifts over the course of the story. Initially, he appears motivated by personal grievance and a desire to prove his technological superiority. However, once he joins Megan’s cause, his motivation becomes rooted in both his scientific expertise and a desire for family reconciliation. He pledges himself to helping Megan shut down the Zentrium chips and defeat OmnicronPsy. A key moment of personal motivation is his reconciliation with his daughter, Akina, from whom he has been estranged due to his neglect of the family in favor of his research, which contributed to the death of his wife. Megan encourages the two to reconcile, and Dr. Coy expresses his genuine love for Akina.
His role in the story is that of a critical ally and support engineer for the protagonist, Megan. After his initial reluctance, he becomes an invaluable member of her team, providing technical support, repairs, and equipment upgrades for her robot companion, Zeus. He operates from a mobile laboratory, likely inside his truck, which serves as a base of operations. He, along with Akina, creates a new suit of water-resistant armor and other weapons for Zeus, enabling the team to progress on their mission. He also lends other robots, such as Fighter, to assist Megan directly in dangerous missions.
Key relationships define Dr. Coy's character. His relationship with his daughter Akina is central, marked by initial hostility due to his abandonment of her and her late mother. Their eventual reconciliation is a significant character beat for him. He also has a known professional history with Emperor Jarad, with whom he fell out over the specifications for the Zentrium biochip, a disagreement that fuels his initial antagonism towards Jarad’s daughter, Megan. He forms a working relationship with Nick, who is his adoptive son.
Dr. Coy does not undergo a dramatic personality shift, but he does experience clear development. He evolves from a reclusive, resentful, and reluctant figure into a committed and collaborative member of Megan’s team. He moves from viewing robots as disposable combatants to building and repairing them with purpose, mends his broken family bond with Akina, and dedicutes his scientific abilities to a cause greater than his own grievances.
Regarding his abilities, Dr. Coy is a highly skilled scientist and robotics engineer. He possesses extensive knowledge of Zentrium technology, including the fundamental nature of the thinking chips. He is capable of building, programming, and repairing advanced robots, as demonstrated by his creations, including the robot King and the Coy Terminator. He is also a capable strategist in robot combat, as shown by his stipulations for Zeus's tournament fights.
