Description
Kogaiji is the youkai prince and the son of Gyumaoh, the Ox King, and Rasetsunyo. He resides in Houtou Castle in India and is a central figure among the demons who oppose the Sanzo Ikkou. His primary motivation stems from a deep devotion to his mother, Rasetsunyo, who has been placed under a curse and turned to stone within Houtou Castle. To secure her release, he is compelled to cooperate with his stepmother, Gyokumen Koushu, whom he personally detests, by retrieving the five sacred sutras from Genjo Sanzo. This mission puts him in direct conflict with the Sanzo Ikkou and drives the main antagonistic force against the protagonists throughout the series.
In personality, Kogaiji is characterized by a strong sense of justice, straightforwardness, and a genuine care for those close to him. He is described as somewhat rigid or earnest in his demeanor, yet he commands loyalty and respect from his followers due to his principled nature and charisma.
