Description
Jamitov Hymem is a fictional character from the anime Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, also appearing in the OVA series Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. He is a senior officer in the Earth Federation Forces and the founder and supreme commander of the Titans, an elite paramilitary group. His role is that of a major antagonist and the principal architect of the political machinations that drive the Gryps Conflict.

Born in U.C. 0027, Jamitov's early life is largely undocumented, but his rise through the Earth Federation's hierarchy is marked by political cunning. Originally serving as a high-ranking official in the Finance Ministry, he later transferred to the military. By the time of the Delaz Conflict in U.C. 0083, he had become an aide to Admiral Gene Coliny. Demonstrating his opportunistic nature, Jamitov manipulated the chaos of Operation Stardust, hindering the Federation's response to the Zeon insurgency to create a political crisis. This allowed him to orchestrate the removal of rival officers and argue successfully for the formation of a new counter-insurgency force, which would become the Titans.

Jamitov's motivations are rooted in a desire for absolute control over the Earth Sphere. While publicly advocating an Earth-supremacist ideology to justify the Titans' brutal oppression of space colonists, his true ambitions appear more totalitarian. He views the Titans not merely as a military unit but as a private army to enforce his vision of global domination, using the fear of spacenoids as a smokescreen for his consolidation of power. His ultimate goal is implied to be the purification of humanity through conflict, with the Earth and its inhabitants serving as mere tools in his grand design.

In the story, Jamitov operates primarily as a political strategist, leaving field command to his subordinates. He masterminds key events such as the assassination of AEUG leader Blex Forer at the Dakar Conference, which enables him to convince the Federation Council to grant the Titans near-unlimited authority. He is present at the Titans' headquarters in Kilimanjaro, where he coldly observes failed experiments on Cyber-Newtypes like Four Murasame, treating human lives as expendable resources in the pursuit of military advantage. He orchestrates a meeting with Haman Karn, the leader of Axis Zeon, attempting to play rival factions against one another to preserve his own standing.

Jamitov maintains several key relationships that define his position. He works closely with Bask Om, a brutal officer who serves as his field commander and enforcer, sharing his disdain for spacenoids. He also brings Paptimus Scirocco, a charismatic and powerful Newtype from Jupiter, into the Titans' fold to serve as a counterweight to Bask's growing influence. Despite Scirocco pledging loyalty with a blood contract, Jamitov remains suspicious of him, a distrust that is ultimately justified. His relationship with the AEUG leader Char Aznable is one of direct opposition, with Char seeking to avenge Blex Forer's death.

Throughout the Gryps Conflict, Jamitov shows little personal development, remaining consistently ruthless and calculating. However, his political maneuverings eventually outpace his ability to control the ambitious individuals he has gathered. He survives a direct confrontation with Char and a deadly meeting with Haman Karn that results in the destruction of the Titans' asteroid base, the Gate of Zedan. Ultimately, his inability to fully foresee Scirocco's betrayal leads to his demise. During a tense three-way conference aboard the Gwadan, Scirocco seizes the opportunity created by a chaotic firefight to assassinate Jamitov, later blaming his death on Haman Karn.

Jamitov possesses notable abilities in political manipulation and strategic planning. He is a master of using crises to his advantage and understands how to exploit the bureaucratic structures of the Earth Federation. While not a frontline combatant, his authority and ability to command loyalty from brutal officers like Bask Om demonstrate his organizational skill. His primary weapon is power derived from position and information, making him a shadowy puppet master rather than a direct participant in combat.
