Description
Fa Yuiry is a fictional character who appears in the anime series Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and its direct sequel, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. She is introduced as a 17-year-old civilian living on the space colony Green Noa 1 with her parents. Born in the Universal Century year 0070, Fa is the next-door neighbor and childhood friend of the protagonist, Kamille Bidan. Her early life is peaceful until the escalating conflict between the Earth Federation's Titans task force and the anti-Titans faction known as the AEUG pulls her into the chaos of war.
Fa serves as an emotional anchor for Kamille, whose dysfunctional family leaves him emotionally fragile. When Kamille steals a Gundam prototype and joins the AEUG, Fa's parents are arrested by the Titans officer Bask Om because of their association with him. Fa manages to escape with the help of Bright Noa and reunites with Kamille aboard the AEUG assault cruiser Argama. This event forces her to make a critical decision: she chooses to join the AEUG rather than remain on the sidelines, demonstrating a quiet but firm determination.
Upon joining the crew of the Argama, Fa undergoes mobile suit pilot training. Her combat skills remain limited throughout the conflict, and she is often a liability rather than an asset in battle. Despite this, she contributes where she can and pilfers mobile suits such as the Gundam Mk-II and the MSA-005 Methuss. Her bravery and willingness to fight, even without natural talent or newtype abilities, allow her to survive the Gryps Conflict. By the end of the war, she becomes the Argama's only active combat pilot remaining. In the final battle of Zeta Gundam, Fa locates Kamille and the critically damaged Zeta Gundam after his fateful encounter with the villain Paptimus Scirocco and brings them both back to the Argama.
The defining aspect of Fa's personality is her nurturing and caring nature. She looks after the welfare of Kamille constantly, often confronting him when his anger or despair threatens to consume him. Her protective instincts extend to two war orphans named Shinta and Qum, for whom she becomes a surrogate mother figure after they are brought aboard the Argama. This role mirrors that of Fraw Bow, a character from the original Mobile Suit Gundam, who similarly cared for the protagonist Amuro Ray and adopted war orphans. Fa shares a complex relationship with Kamille that is central to her story. She has strong romantic feelings for him, which are eventually reciprocated, though their relationship is tested by the pressures of war and Kamille's emotional journeys with other characters, particularly the ill-fated Four Murasame.
The conclusion of the Gryps Conflict leaves Kamille psychologically crippled as a result of Scirocco's final mental attack. Fa's role then shifts dramatically following the events of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. During the subsequent First Neo-Zeon War depicted in Gundam ZZ, Fa spends most of her time providing tender care to Kamille while he is in a coma and later while he is mentally incapacitated. Her dedication to him is so profound that even an enemy character, Mashymre Cello, is impressed and describes her as Lady Angel. She initially continues her duties on the Argama but chooses to retire from active combat after her Methuss is disabled while she is saving the new protagonist, Judau Ashta. Fa later reappears working as a nurse in Dublin while still caring for Kamille. In the epilogue of Gundam ZZ, Kamille recovers his mental faculties, and the two are last seen running along a beach together, suggesting a peaceful life after the end of the wars. Through her evolution from a civilian to a soldier and finally to a caretaker, Fa Yuiry represents the human cost of war and the resilience required to rebuild lives after conflict.
