Li Meiling is a supporting character in the anime Cardcaptor Sakura and appears in Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card. She is originally from Hong Kong and is the first cousin of Syaoran Li. In her childhood, after Syaoran rescued her pet bird in the rain, she became deeply devoted to him and declared herself his fiancée, a promise she later released when she realized his true feelings belonged to Sakura Kinomoto. Meiling has no magical abilities, but she has trained in martial arts since childhood, which she uses to assist in capturing Clow Cards when possible. She is known for her strong will, kind heart, and bright, outgoing personality, often dressed in red outfits with signature hair buns. In The Sealed Card, Meiling returns to Tomoeda from Hong Kong alongside Syaoran. Her visit is part of a plan arranged with Tomoyo Daidoji to encourage Sakura to confess her feelings to Syaoran. Throughout the film, Meiling acts as an emotional supporter and a perceptive friend, gently nudging Sakura toward honesty about her love. She does not participate directly in the magical battles against the Nothing, but her presence and encouragement help Sakura navigate the personal and emotional challenges she faces. Meiling’s role in the story is that of a caring ally who has matured from her earlier jealousy into someone who selflessly prioritizes the happiness of those she cares about. Her growth is shown in her ability to set aside her former attachment to Syaoran and instead foster the relationship between him and Sakura.
