Description
Kero, also known as Cerberus or Keroberos, is one of the two Guardians of the Clow Cards, having been created by the powerful magician Clow Reed to protect the cards and choose the next master. By the time of Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card, Kero has been living with his chosen master, Sakura Kinomoto, for some time, acting as her companion and guide. He usually resides in a borrowed form that resembles a small, plush, yellow-orange lion cub with tiny white wings, which is the appearance he maintains most often. In this form, he is able to fly and has limited magical abilities, such as breathing small fireballs. However, his true form is that of a majestic, mane-less lion with large angelic white wings and metal armor featuring a red gemstone. After all the Clow Cards were captured, his full power was restored, allowing him to transform into this powerful state at will.

In terms of personality, Kero is lively, bossy, and outspoken, often demanding snacks or complaining, but this exterior masks a deep and genuine care for Sakura. He is exceptionally gluttonous, with an intense love for sweets, cakes, and video games, hobbies he pursues with great enthusiasm even though he generates his own energy from the sun and does not require food to survive. Despite his sometimes erratic and egotistical behavior, he is remarkably intelligent and knowledgeable about magic and the Clow Cards, though even he was unaware of the existence of the 53rd card, The Void, which is the central threat of the second movie. He dislikes feeling sad or lonely and tends to distract himself with indulgent pastimes, but he is not immune to the serious responsibilities of his role as a guardian.

Kero's primary motivation in The Sealed Card is the same as it has always been: to support Sakura and fulfill his duty as the Guardian of the Seal. When mysterious disappearances begin occurring in Tomoeda and Sakura's cards are stolen one by one, Kero is initially baffled, as he senses no magical presence and has no knowledge of a remaining card. His motivation is to help Sakura understand and overcome this new threat, even when the situation becomes dire. He assists her by using his knowledge of magic and his combat abilities, particularly when he assumes his true form to fight the monstrous creations of The Void card alongside Sakura and the other guardian, Yue. His role in the story is that of a steadfast ally and advisor, providing crucial support and comic relief even as the danger escalates.

Kero shares several important relationships that are highlighted in the film. His bond with Sakura is the most central; he acts as her friend, confidant, and loyal servant, protecting her and offering encouragement despite their frequent bickering. His relationship with the other guardian, Yue, is one of a long-standing partnership and rivalry, with Kero representing the sun and Yue the moon. They work together effectively in battle, such as when Kero uses a fireball to attack a monster so Yue can rescue Sakura. His relationship with Syaoran Li remains one of playful antagonism; Kero enjoys teasing Syaoran, often being called a stuffed animal in return, and does not hesitate to transform into his larger, more intimidating true form just to provoke him, as seen when he steps on Syaoran after the boy insults him.

Throughout the film, Kero's character shows a subtle but important development. While he maintains his cheerful and snack-obsessed exterior, he also demonstrates the weight of his experience as a guardian. The appearance of a card not even he knew about challenges his understanding of Clow Reed's magic and forces him to acknowledge that not everything is as straightforward as he once believed. He continues to show his maturity by pushing aside his usual laziness to take the situation seriously, ultimately trusting in Sakura's strength and her feelings to resolve the crisis. His notable abilities, as displayed in the film, include flight, magical sensing, the power to breathe fire, and summoning protective energy barriers, particularly when he is in his true, powerful form. His power is derived from the sun and gives him jurisdiction over fire and earth-based magic, making him a formidable fighter against the physical threats posed by The Void card.
