Description
Jorrne is the central protagonist of the anime Eden's Bowy. He is a young farm boy whose life is irrevocably changed when he discovers his true heritage as a God Hunter, a being destined to kill gods. His background is marked by abandonment; as an infant, he was cast out from Yulgaha, one of the great floating celestial cities, precisely because of his identity as a God Hunter. After being thrown down to the surface world, he was sold and eventually raised by a poor foster father on a farm, growing into a bright and cheerful, if somewhat rustic, young man.
Jorrne is defined by a core set of motivations that drive him forward throughout the story. His most profound desire is to return to the sky city of Yulgaha to reunite with his mother, from whom he was separated as a young child. This wish is complicated by the fact that the ruling powers of the floating continents consider him a threat. Alongside this goal, he develops an equally powerful need to protect Elisiss, a mysterious girl he encounters who is not human. His affection for her becomes a central pillar of his character, and he is determined to safeguard her above all else.
Initially, Jorrne lives a simple life and seems unprepared for the violent destiny that awaits him. He does not actively seek out conflict, and his mentor, an older wandering warrior known as Oyaji, often restrains him from fighting, which frustrates Jorrne to no end. However, after his foster father is killed by assassins sent from the sky cities, Jorrne is thrust into a journey of discovery. He reluctantly but determinedly joins forces with Oyaji and Elisiss, setting out for the floating islands. His character develops significantly as he comes to terms with his role as a God Hunter. He initially admires the celestial cities and wishes to ascend to them, but his journey reveals the corruption and evil that reside there, forcing him to confront his naive dreams.
One of the most critical aspects of Jorrne's development involves his relationship with Elisiss and her adult alter-ego, Seeda. He struggles to reconcile that the gentle young girl and the powerful, combat-ready woman are the same person, but he eventually accepts this truth. Furthermore, when he learns that Elisiss is herself a god, he faces the ultimate irony of his existence: as a God Hunter, he is fated to kill gods. Jorrne firmly rejects this destiny, believing that he is not forced to kill her and declaring that he will break even natural law to keep her safe. He also develops a rivalry with another God Hunter named Spike Randit, who believes there can only be one of their kind, creating further tension in Jorrne's journey.
As a God Hunter, Jorrne possesses several notable abilities. He is immune to the powers and magical speech of the gods, which makes him a unique threat to them, though it also means they must use human agents to attack him. His primary weapon is a large sword given to him by Elisiss, which she magically transforms from a broken blade into the sword of a God Hunter. This weapon can unleash massive blasts of energy. When he wields this sword, his latent powers as a God Hunter are awakened, granting him incredible strength in battle.
