Description
Hiroshi Mitarai, also known by the nicknames Dai-chan or Poops, is a supporting character in the story. The humor behind his unfortunate nickname comes from the fact that his surname, Mitarai, can be interpreted as a Japanese word for bathroom. He is a young grade school student with a physical profile that includes a height of approximately 142 centimeters and a weight of around 39 kilograms. His birthday is June 15th, making his zodiac sign Gemini, and he is recognized by his purple hair, bowl-cut hairstyle, and a pair of glasses.

In terms of personality, Hiroshi is depicted as a very eccentric and intensely competitive individual. He is from a wealthy and prestigious family, which places a great deal of pressure on him to succeed and live up to the family name. This pressure fuels his primary driving motivation: a deep-seated obsession with outdoing his classmate and rival, Takashi Ayanokoji, who is often called Ten-chan. Hiroshi views Takashi as the standard of excellence and works very hard to surpass him in academic tests, athletics, and popularity, though he is consistently frustrated by always falling just short of beating him.

Beyond his academic rivalry, Hiroshi's motivations also extend to romantic feelings. He develops a significant crush on Misha, the cheerful angel-in-training, and frequently tries to win her affection, often competing with Takashi for her attention in school events such as the class play. Ironically, despite his attachment to Misha, he is suspicious of her quiet roommate Shia. Being well-versed and strict in traditional Japanese arts, Hiroshi possesses an intuitive knowledge that allows him to sense Shia's supernatural nature. He does not realize that she is a demon and Misha is an angel, but he correctly guesses that Shia is a malevolent spirit, which leads him to frequently attempt exorcisms on her while simultaneously clinging to Misha for protection.

His role in the narrative is primarily as a comedic rival and a catalyst for school-based conflict. He is introduced to the story as a new transfer student in Kotarou Higuchi's class, bringing with him a one-sided rivalry against Takashi that adds a layer of competitive tension to the group dynamic. He is also part of a larger family unit that creates romantic complications, as his little sister, Kaoru, becomes infatuated with Takashi and often tries to avenge her brother's perceived slights, leading to further humorous situations.

In terms of character development, Hiroshi remains relatively consistent throughout the series. Unlike the main protagonists who deal with supernatural and emotional growth, his core traits of intense rivalry and eccentric behavior are stable elements used for comedic effect. He does not learn that Shia is a demon or that Misha is an angel, maintaining his misguided yet amusing approach to exorcising Shia and doting on Misha from the beginning to the end of the story. Regarding notable abilities, while he is not magically gifted like the angel and demon characters, he possesses a unique and practical skill: he owns a trained eagle named Jimmi, whom he is able to summon by blowing a special whistle.
