Description
Meguru is the younger sister of Agent L, a character who operates from Earth, and was originally an enthusiastic player of the Dragon Drive game. Her role in the story shifts dramatically when she becomes deeply involved with the inner world of Rikyu, eventually rejecting her original mission. Meguru possesses brown hair and brown eyes, and she is often seen riding a red dragon, though her most significant dragon partner is Jigen Jouka, which has the ability to create dimensional portals.
Initially, Meguru was recruited by the organization RI-ON and sent to the inner world of Rikyu to carry out their objectives. However, her allegiance changed after she failed a mission in the Shijinryuu region and was pursued by RI-ON agents. She was rescued and taken in by an elderly woman named Obaba, the leader of a community in Rikyu. Through this experience, Meguru came to understand the true nature of the Dragon Drive world and the consequences of RI-ON's plans, leading her to defect from the organization and find a new home among the people of Rikyu, who accepted her as the heir to their leader.
Meguru is depicted as a determined individual whose convictions are strong enough to defy her original handlers. A significant aspect of her personality is her deep loyalty to Rikyu and its inhabitants, whom she has come to love. This loyalty is put to the test when she is pressured to assist RI-ON in locating a shrine. Her refusal is so absolute that she is willing to commit suicide by jumping from a dragon rather than cooperate with the organization, an act from which she is saved by the character Ichiro. She also stubbornly refuses to return to Earth when others try to persuade her, indicating that she has firmly chosen her life in Rikyu over her past.
Within the story, Meguru serves as a crucial guide and ally to the main protagonist, Reiji Ozora. She is instrumental in transporting Reiji, Maiko, and Daisuke to the world of Rikyu, using Jigen Jouka's power to create a portal for them. Her knowledge of the inner world proves vital, although she sometimes struggles to recall specific locations, such as the shrine crucial to the plot. In one instance, she works to remember its location, and later, she actively opposes RI-ON by creating another dimensional portal to help Reiji and his friends leave Rikyu to prevent the resurrection of the dragon Shinryu and the destruction of both worlds.
Key relationships define Meguru's place in the narrative. Her connection with her sister, Agent L, is a significant thread; Agent L allows Meguru to stay in Rikyu at the story's end, promising to visit her, indicating a bond that transcends their opposing allegiances. Her relationship with Ichiro is also notable, as he saves her life when she attempts to take it, demonstrating his care for her. Within Rikyu, she forms a close bond with Obaba, the elderly leader who saved her, and is seen studying with her in the epilogue. By the conclusion of the series, she has also seemingly become friends with a character named Medina Heaven.
Throughout the series, Meguru undergoes a clear development from a mere player and pawn of RI-ON to a defector with her own moral compass. Her past as a traitor to RI-ON is central to her identity, but her actions consistently prove her commitment to protecting her new home. Her memories, particularly regarding the location of the shrine, are a point of focus, but she ultimately overcomes this block to aid her friends. In the final episode, she makes the definitive choice to remain in Rikyu, a decision her sister respects, solidifying her complete transition from an agent of the outside world to a permanent resident and heir of Rikyu.
In terms of abilities, Meguru is a skilled dragon rider, frequently seen with a red dragon as her mount. Her most notable ability, however, comes from her partnership with her primary dragon, Jigen Jouka. This dragon possesses the power of dimensional manipulation, specifically the ability to open portals that allow for travel between Earth and the inner world of Rikyu, a skill Meguru uses to transport the main characters at critical junctures in the plot.
