TV-Series
Description
The character known as Nômato, also romanized as Normad, is a supporting character in the anime Galaxy Angel Z. He is closely tied to Vanilla H. and is an anime-original character, meaning he does not appear in the original Galaxy Angel video games.
On the surface, Nômato is a small stuffed animal that Vanilla carries with her, but his nature is far more advanced than his appearance suggests. His true form is a card-shaped terminal that holds a super-high-performance artificial intelligence created with Lost Technology, an advanced science left over from an earlier civilization. Before he became a companion, this artificial intelligence served as the guidance system of a missile. After he encountered Vanilla, his core, in the shape of the card terminal, was transferred into the stuffed toy, which is how he came to have the form he keeps for the rest of the series. His official full designation is an extremely long alphanumeric name that finally ends with the name Nômato.
In personality, Nômato is talkative and sharp-tongued. Although he is an artificial intelligence, he is highly opinionated and fond of sarcastic and insulting remarks. He constantly criticizes the other members of the Angel Troupe and is especially harsh toward Forte Stollen, which often results in the squad beating him up whenever they find the opportunity. His attitude toward Vanilla is different. He is devoted to her and almost reveres her, but his feelings appear to be one-sided, since she treats him with little warmth and often handles him roughly.
His motivation is closely tied to Vanilla. He acts as her constant companion, assistant, and travel partner, staying with her through the events of the series and supporting her in her activities. His relationship with Vanilla is the defining one in his existence, marked by his loyalty and admiration on his side and her dismissive treatment on hers. With Forte and the other members of the Angel Troupe, his role is that of a provocateur whose insults keep him in constant, mostly comedic conflict with them.
His abilities come from his nature as a Lost Technology computer. He can speak through the plush body, process and store information, and perform the kind of advanced computational tasks expected of a high-performance artificial intelligence, making him a useful partner despite his small and harmless appearance.
In terms of development, the main change in his existence occurred before the events of the story, when he went from being the artificial intelligence inside a missile to being housed in a stuffed animal after meeting Vanilla. Within the anime, his established traits, his devotion to Vanilla and his abrasive relationship with her teammates, remain the consistent threads that define his role as a recurring supporting character in Galaxy Angel Z.
