Description
Doromizu Pirako, also known as Chin Pirako, is a character introduced as a young woman seeking to join the Yorozuya, though her true intentions are far more complex. She hails from the Kabuki district and is the daughter of Doromizu Jirochou, one of the district's former Four Devas. Her mother was pregnant with her when Jirochou left the family, and despite her mother's insistence that the father was not to blame and still possessed some goodness, Pirako grew up without a paternal figure in her life. The name Pirako is a play on the word chinpira, a Japanese term for a hoodlum or low-ranking thug, which reflects her initial aggressive and unruly demeanor.
In terms of appearance, Pirako stands 170 centimeters tall and weighs 53 kilograms. She has short, vermillion red hair that is tied up in the front and dark purple eyes. Her typical outfit consists of a pink kimono with a floral pattern, which she wears draped over her left shoulder.
On the surface, Pirako acts foolish and violent, but this is largely a facade for a much more cunning and calculating personality. Her core motivation is a deep-seated desire to reclaim her father's attention and bring him back to her. She believes that by forcing him to become the sole ruler of Kabuki-chou, he would finally be finished with his business and return home to his family. This longing drives her to orchestrate a war between the four Devas who control the district.
Pirako plays a central role in the Four Devas arc. She initially presents herself as a hitokiri, or manslayer, wanting to join the Yorozuya and align with Otose's faction. In truth, she is conspiring with Kujaku Hime Kada to sever Jirochou's ties with Otose and eliminate the other ruling powers. Her plan is to create chaos, forcing her father to consolidate power and, in her mind, come back to her. During this time, she demonstrates a notable, though possibly feigned, interest in Sakata Gintoki, going so far as to suggest that he should marry her to join her family. This may have been a ruse to provoke or manipulate him given the circumstances.
Pirako's key relationship is with her father, Jirochou. Her entire scheme is built on the hope of reuniting with him. She is also affiliated with the Nezumi-gumi, the group her father leads. Her alliance with Kada proves to be a mistake, as Kada betrays her and attacks everyone with an army of Shinra, revealing that Pirako was merely a pawn in a larger conspiracy.
In terms of abilities, Pirako is a skilled swordswoman whose weapon of choice is a katana. She is capable enough to cut down two of Gengai's robots, demonstrating a level of proficiency that earned her a fearsome reputation as a manslayer. However, her skills are not on par with the series' main fighters, as she was easily defeated by Shimura Shinpachi, who used only the back of his blade to avoid causing a fatal wound. Like her father, she possesses considerable combat talent, but she is not invincible.
Throughout the Four Devas arc, Pirako experiences significant development. After her plan falls apart and she is betrayed, she begins to realize the error of her ways. In the end, her father, having been defeated by Gintoki, gives up his position as a Deva in order to spend more time with her. The two are finally reunited, and she achieves her goal of having her father return to her. In later storylines, such as the Silver Soul arc, Pirako returns to Kabuki-chou alongside her father to help protect the district, showing that she has matured and now works alongside him rather than scheming to win his attention.
