Description
Chi-Yun Li is a recurring character first appearing in the anime Beyblade: Metal Masters, where he serves as a member of the Chinese team Wang Hu Zhong. He is twelve years old and physically is one of the smallest and youngest bladers in the series. He has peach skin, reddish-brown eyes, and dark blue hair that is tied back into a long, braided ponytail. His traditional attire consists of a purple kimono or changshan with red and yellow trim, featuring a dark orange circle with a red gecko emblem. He also wears a green jade prayer bead necklace, white pants, brown and purple boots, and a purple hat with a yellow trim and a small green ball on top that resembles Qing Dynasty official headgear.
Chi-Yun Li is a very serious and intense blader who approaches every battle with a desire for a true challenge. He is not content with easy victories and has a tendency to taunt his opponents, not out of malice, but specifically to provoke their rage and push them to unlock their full potential. Despite this fierce competitive nature, he is calm and composed in his demeanor. He is also extremely loyal to his home country of China and to his best friend and team leader, Dashan Wang. Chi-Yun is very talkative in public and often serves as the spokesman for his team when Dashan is not around, speaking in the third person. He holds a strong distaste for his teammate Chao Xin, whom he considers cocky and dishonorable due to Chao Xin's refusal to train at the Beylin Temple and perceived lack of loyalty.
Chi-Yun Li was raised and trained at the Beylin Temple alongside Dashan Wang, who became his inspiration. Before coming to the temple, Chi-Yun was an undefeated blader, but his experiences there changed his perspective. As the World Championships approach, he travels to Japan with teammate Mei-Mei to scout the competition. He uses a fake message to lure Gingka Hagane and Masamune Kadoya into a trap, forcing a tag-team match to test their skills. Although his team loses that encounter due to luck, he warns the Japanese bladers about the upcoming tournament. He takes a particular interest in a match between Tsubasa Otori and Kyoya Tategami, feeling that both fought at their strongest. When Team Wang Hu Zhong faces GanGan Galaxy in the first round, Chi-Yun is disappointed by Tsubasa Otori's lack of drive. Through taunting, he pushes Tsubasa to his emotional limit, which causes Tsubasa to unleash a mysterious dark power that overwhelms Chi-Yun's Beyblade, though it ultimately self-destructs and gives Chi-Yun the win. Later in the tournament, after his team fights to re-enter the competition through a wild card spot, Chi-Yun faces the powerful European blader Klaus. Despite battling hard to create his own legacy and win as thanks to Dashan, he is defeated, leading to his team's elimination. Following the tournament, when the Spiral Force weapon is announced, Chi-Yun and his team join forces with others to help thwart the plan before returning to the Beylin Temple.
